I know its early but the off-season started a few hours ago when Lewiston completed the upset. So we know that changes are expected in Montreal but were not sure what.

Players Leaving
Chouinard
Gouchie
Meilleur
Berube (AHL maybe)
Landry(AHL very likely or Chicoutimi )
Roussel( No way he comes back)
Beauchemin( Ya no way he's an OA)
Lefebrve ( AHL)
Hertzberg (20 year old euro ?)
Aubry ( possible but not likely)
Parkes (possible but not likely)
Leblanc (AHL)
Fontaine
Rose (To Cape Breton)
Anderson

So not all of these guys are leaving but 90-100% Will not be back.

Returning Players
Marcoux
Ouellet
Narbonne
Provost ?
Micalef ?
Clarke
Lafalmme
Lemieux

Now there are some trades that are going down at the draft. From what I know the Juniors have no 1st or 2nd round pick and no top 94's that can step in.

If anyone can post on info about any trades and info on what prospects the Juniors have and what picks they have in the draft.

One thing is for sure its going to be a long time before the juniors are competitive again and its going to be a long rebuild.

2011 Draft picks
2
3(CHI)
7
8
9
10
10 (Vic)
11
12
EURO1
EURO2

So were likely to add about 5 players at the draft to our roster on opening night and there will be atleast 2 95s in the prospect pool if things dont change.

Yikes, they better hope to get some of those top listed players back so they can start the rebuild...if not it looks like a 4 year plan at least..

Hari was traded to Rouyn-Noranda.

Landry will be traded to Chicoutimi if he comes back. (End of the Leblanc deal)

Rose will be traded to Cape Breton. (Hertzberg deal)

Will Montreal win more than 2 games next year...yikes. They might play in JUnior AAA or just called-up all the players who played for College Francais and Valleyfield..

What did we get for Hari ? And I must say that's a stupid trade. He is going to be very very good in the Q. Man Vincent sure did overpay, he overpayed on just about everyone and he traded most of our draft picks.

The only moveable assets we have our:
Ouellet
Marcoux
Any OA's that come back.

Now this is just a rumour and I have no source for it but being a Lac-St-Louis lions fan I went to alot of games and Anthony Duclair's dad was always chatting with a Juniors scout or representative at the games. Duclair played AA in Montreal so maybe he pulls a ouellet and we trade to get him but that's a HUGE maybe.

Anyone info on what rounds monteal has picks in ? this year and the next ?

Montreal has:

7
8
9
10
10 (Vic)
11
12
EURO1

Hari was put on waivers and Rouyn-Noranda claimed him. You got nothing for him. He might not be back next season and they will probably release him. There's a rumour about Quebec trading one of their euros and their Import pick (20th) to Rouyn-Noranda for their 2nd overall pick in the Import draft.

Why Parkes and Aubry will not be back?

They are both signed by the Wings and will most likely play in GR instead of an OA year.

Thanks for the answer.

Yeah I know that they are signed with the Wings, but they way that the Wings develop their prospects and don't rush them, I wouldn't be surprised if they are back as an overage next year.

So why wouldn't Philippe Lefebvre return for another season? Obviously he'll be an overager next year but is he really good enough to warrant a spot on Hamilton next year? He could come back and light it up as an overager and either give Montreal some support or be traded to help their future out.

Players with a contract almost never come back for their OA season. Lefebvre was signed in 2009.

I'm near positive there's something in the contract that says the 20-year-old season counts as year one of the contract, regardless of where that player plays (aka junior/minor pro/NHL).

Would Detroit or Montreal want to use up a year of the contracts that they have Parkes, Aubry and Lefebvre signed to, to return them to the Junior?

You are right, the automatic extension does not apply if the player turns 20 before December 31 of the season.

So if a 1991 born player has an NHL contract for next season and is returned to junior, the first year of the contract is burned.

The way I see it:

Leblanc - Hamilton
Parkes - back as a 20
Hertzberg - too rare to see a 20 years old Euro
Rose - traded
Lefebvre - back as a 20
Aubry - Grand Rapids
Anderson - out
Pouliot - out
Laflamme - stays
Clarke - stays
Aquin - stays
Lemieux - stays

Roussel - Milwaukee
Landry - traded
Ouellet - stays
Narbonne - stays
Provost - stays
Micallef - stays
Beauchemin - out

Berube - Manchester
Marcoux - stays

Maroux will be good between the pipes and with that top-4 on defense we should be alright. If Berube comes back that's a HUGE trading chip. Hopefully we have some good prospect on offense cause it doesn't look good on that front.

If we can get two good Euros though, that might switch things around a little bit, like Hoefflin and Filippi from Quebec. Don't forget Montreal is a big city that can easily attract marquee europeans.

I'd expect Montreal to finish around 12th or 13th next year. Not sure if Vincent will be back but with a bit of whealing and dealing, we should be alright.

Possible scenario: Berube comes back, gets traded for two good young forwards and a 1st round pick.

We should also be getting bottom players for Rose and Landry if they get traded back...

Lineup:

Parkes - Euro - Laflamme
Euro - Trade - Clarke
Lemieux - Draft Pick - Trade
Aquin - Draft Pick - Trade

Ouellet - Provost
Micallef - Narbonne
Trade - Draft Pick

Marcoux
Free Agent

Let's see what our scouts are made of...

So it seems like alot will depend on who comes back and who the coach is.

I can't see us in the playoffs next year. I expect us to be awful. Out of curiosity do we have all of our 2012 picks ?

Montreal's first pick in 2012 will probably be the first overall.

Again Vincent grossly overpayed, the man has single handedly killed the franchise and junior hockey in Montreal for a 3rd time. How did he get an extension ? or an AHL contract offer for that matter ? No way he plans to stay and clean up his mess.

You are underrating Vincent. In his interview with Stephane Leroux he said he was very excited to come back and rebuild this team from the ground up. Excited to give the net to Marcoux, etc. Seems to me like he is a very passionate guy, perhaps one day he'll win in the playoffs. This year just wasn't our year man, it happens.

Let's just sit back and enjoy seeing our young players mature and become good... even if this means two years of mediocre hockey.

This is how it works in junior hockey.

I for one am very interested in seeing what happens this summer. I trust the scouts to find two good euros, perhaps one or two good free agents, draft well, make a trade or two, and let the kids grow under Pascal Vincent.

Don't forget about Etienne Marcoux. Perhaps the best goaltender of his age group in the QMJHL.

This is not the first time Vincent fails with a big team... I remember when he was at Cape Breton, he had a way better team than he had this season and he didn't actually go further...

Pascal Vincent has a reputation all around the League : he can't win in the playoffs, he is just not able to past the 2nd round.

PS = I think Christopher Gibson is a little bit better than Marcoux ^^

Gibson and Marcoux aren't in the same 'age group'. Marcoux is one year younger. I think Honzik looks better than Marcoux.

You're probably right. Well Honzik has proven a lot more. Should be interesting to see them both next year.

Marcoux is definitely Montreal's top young player... along with Ouellet. Those are the two players they should build around.
