Drop a RFA offer sheet on stamkos this summer?

i was thinking today that it might be a good idea to drop a restricted offer on to stamkos. i think its crystal clear that he is a rising uberstud in the NHL. he is an electrifying skater, a great shooter, and a perfect winger for jason spezza. we have tons of picks stockpiled, and you have to think that its extremely unlikely with any or all of those picks that we could get our hands on a player as good as stamkos.

would you drop a long term, $7.5mil+ RFA offer sheet on stamkos in the summer?

Tampa will likely match any offer, of possible. If not, they'll make room.

There isn't an answer in there that is going to satisfy what people want to answer.

I'm going to answer "Not sure", as in "Not sure if serious".

You could, but it would be in vain, as there is no way Tampa would let Stamkos walk.

you have to think that TB would match but we wouldnt be trying if we didnt do something like this. TB has some big contracts going forward so maybe if we went $8mil+ on stamkos they wouldnt be able to do it. you never know. it would sure show our fanbase we were serious.

Serious about being a target for offer sheets the next chance anyone gets. Not good. And that's after you miss out on him.

Obviously this is never going to happen, but for the sake of it let's just say it's a possilibility.

The price we'd have to pay in order for TB to be unable to match would have to border 10m per season. Not only that, but we'd forfeit our next 4 1sts.

Considering the situation we're in currently, we aren't in a position to be doing so. I HIGHLY doubt any of those 4 picks get anywhere close to Stamkos, but you're looking at 4 potential impact players.

Can anyone actually name a time that an Offer sheet actually worked out, for ANYONE?

It's more about if you're willing to pay the price.

I think you'd have to get him to sign the offer sheet for it to go through... I highly doubt he has any intentions of leaving that team

I think at this point Stamkos relies way too much on St Louis for his points. He would probably work well with Spezza but I don't think adding another 7+million dollar player is going to help us in the long run.

according to brian burke, edm's offer sheet to penner was a lot more than what penner was worth so i guess that counts

No, as every Tampa Bay fan would s**t a brick and start rioting. Seriously though, Stamkos is going nowhere.

Kesler and Backes worked for their respective teams (both sheets were matched), and would have worked beautifully if Philadelphia and Vancouver had been able to pry them away.

There is nothing free about an RFA. There is a reason why there have hardly been any offers. All you really do is raise the average salary of players, and annoy the team who has to match the offer. And as mentioned, it would mean 5 firsts in this case. Who thinks all this team needs is Stamkos, and we become an "elite team", with no need of first round picks for 5 years?

Tampa has fans? lol. The offer sheet tactic really isn't a viable option. Any team that goes out an offer sheets a player, is basically giving a green light to the rest of the league to offer sheet their rfa's.

I say we do this. Then we'll all mortgage our houses, buy Ferraris and race them down Sussex Drive.

A big no from me. We could do it and have a fun player to watch for years and years, but never have a chance to ever win anything, ever.

Just as an aside here, imagine if Buffalo had never matched the Vanek offer sheet. . . That would have destroyed the Edmonton franchise.

No. Ripping a guy away from HIS team is not going to work. Stamkos is a professional but I doubt he'd be happy at all. If we're going to suck, let's keep our picks. This just seems like attempting to manufacture success, which isn't the way to be IMO.
