Defence

With Modry gone, can anybody tell me, what the defensive pairings will presumably be?

They'll undoubtedly be switched up throughout the year, as they were last season, but I'll take a stab at it:

Norstrom-Miller
Visnovsky-Dempsey
Quintal-Gleason

Corvo
Zizka
Holland
Grebeshkov

Norstrom/Vis

Miller/Dempsey

Quintal/Gleason

Though I suspect Miller will be gone at the trade deadline and Grebs/Zizka/Corvo will take his spot. I say this because of his contract, injury history, and the need for the Kings to acquire more picks in the 2005 draft. He might land us another 1st, you never know.

Quintal's a great role-model for our younger D-men.

I agree with everything here but the assumption that we won't be in the playoff picture at the deadline. Miller might be traded for an asset that fills a niche that we might need help at if one of the kids mentioned proves himself capable. That is a longshot in my opinion. We seem to be building an upstate NY thing on the team, Miller is part of that.

I wont be surprised if Grebs out plays Gleason and Quintal during pre-season.

He may outplay them, but I see the Kings giving Grebs more seasoning in the AHL, since missed so much time last year with the injury.

I wouldn't like it if they did that. Gleason didn't have seasoning in the AHL and he just jumped to the big club because he out played people. Put the best product on the ice.

I give Miller 15 games before he gets injured.

I'm not sure they signed Holland to have him and Corvo sit. I think Holland is likely the #7, Corvo is in, and Gleason is in Manchester to start the season (if there is an NHL season). If there is a lock-out, I'm not sure what happens to Gleason. He only played 22-games with the Monarchs last season and is far short of the 50-game AHL assignment last year to be eligible to play in the AHL this year if there is a lock-out.

Maybe if there is an NHL season and a waiver draft, Corvo or Holland might be left unprotected and picked-up by another team????

Anyway, I'd be surprised if the Kings keep 2 d-men in LA to be healthy scratches for an extended period of time and even more surprised if Holland or Corvo were sent to Manchester but that's JMO.....

There are many that don't like Holland, but it appears that management was willing to stick with him for another year. Maybe now that Brennan is gone, a spot in the "press box" is open and they do keep 8 in LA. I know Brennan was a forward but let's fce it, when they moved him, they opened up a spot on AM's healthy scratch list. Maybe Dallas will make an offer to Corvo or Zizka, they're real thin on D right now and they could probably get either of those two for less than the minimum required to give-up compensation picks?

Could? With the Kings, that's a guarantee.

To bad there in our divison, I wouldn't mind sending them Miller and Matty and getting 2-3 prospects for them.

If people are really intent on doing the BIG DUMP the Kings need start lining up trades with the cellar dwellers in 2004-05, so they can get the #1 overall pick. I'm thinking Phoenix, Carolina, Washington, Anaheim, Florida. I would think that a Gretzky would never trade away a chance to grab Crosby, but maybe a couple of the other teams would. It would be best to acquire the first round picks from these teams well before they lock-up their last place finish though. The toughest part is that these teams are not going to be looking to acquire older players like Norstrom or Miller. They will want a younger established NHLer or a top prospect for that shot at the #1 pick.
