I really think we either move up or move down. I do not think we pick @ 5.
I would love to get Larsson but Devils will take him. That is the guy the isles might have been targeting. Now Hamilton may be the next guy but a trade down will be the choice. We select someone for Dougie H. and some add ons.
Just listening to all the radio bits and internet chatter on this draft and feel like we're in excellent shape. Heck, even Ottawa is in excellent shape. After six, there is a drop-off...but even then a Hamilton or Murphy is available. Gabriel Landeskog might also be available at five...here's why:
Bryan Murray is being intervied right now on Ottawa radio and was saying that he doesn't expect the number one or number two draft picks to be in play as far as trades go. RNH and Larsson should go here.
The number three spot could be in play according to Murray, and this makes sense beyond just Ottawa's interest in Landeskog. No less than Couturier, Huberdeau, and Strome are all much, much better offensive players than Landeskog. Also, if Landeskog at three is a possibility for a trade as Murray suggested, that means that scouts feel as though someone is a better choice at three.
I think that we may see Huberdeau climb as high as three, and if Strome continues to show his stuff in the playoffs, he could pull a Ryan Johansen...maybe someone else could speak to this, but shouldn't Strome be playing in the under 18 tourney this summer? That could be a huge boost...but I think only one of Huberdeau and Strome climbs any more.
Couturier isn't as bad as some think. A TSN survey of 10 scouts had Couturier listed solidly in the top five, and three scouts had him in the top three. The Devils should jump all over this guy. They may take Landeskog, leaving the Isles with Couturier.
Yep, the Isles will go for the NHL ready player...either Landeskog or Couturier is what I am thinking now.
Vokoun won't be returning to the Panthers. Can they use a goalie propect?
How about the #5 pick and either Poulin or Anders Nilsson for the #3 pick?
Does Colorado do this deal for their pick?
I would suspect that neither team does it.
The Islanders don't do it in case one of Poulin or Nilsson doesn't pan out. These are the top two goalie prospects in the system now, and both look like they could develop into a number one goalie.
Florida and Colorado don't do it either, and for the same reason- you never know.
These weren't number two or number three overall picks, and when making a trade like this (with unknows) you can't really add a few together to move up and select an Adam Larsson- he's more of a known quantity.
