Really tough to pick 3 stars tonight.

I'll go with:

Howard
Datsyuk
Kronwall

But Abddelkader, Helm, Miller, Filppula and Cleary could all be there.

Howard, Miller, Filppula.

HM: Dats, Helm, Abby, Hudler

Howard played real strong. Game could have easily been tied a few times. Miller, strong play all game. Good backchecking on D, good cycling down low, smart plays. Love it. Modano, keep sitting. Filp was looking very confident today. Making good swagger moves, getting shots off, scoring a goal. Forechecking hard. I saw him knock someone off the puck a couple times, that's always nice.

Dats: not as godly as games 1 and 2. Gave up another goal to Cleary who missed the EN. C'mon Cleary. Dats works so hard to steal that puck and you waste it.
Helm: what a speed demon. His work on Salei's goal is classic Helm. Goes in, checks Jovo (SAME HIT AS GAME2. WHERE'S THE CALL REF?) Worked hard all game. Love that kid.
Abby: same as Helm. Just a great grindy game from Abby. I love our 3/4 lines.
Hudler: I like what I'm seeing from Hudler. He's making smart passes, setting Filp up on his goal and elsewhere. He's got incredible vision. I wish he'd take more shots though. On the PP, he'd have all this open room to take it in from off the halfboards but he'd just stand still and make an outlet pass somewhere. Good passes, but c'mon. You know you've got some hands, take it in.

I actually checked every wings box there was. I thought tonight was as close to "total team effort" as we're gonna see.

Salei - poor guy doesn't get a mention ever, so I thought I'd give him a pity vote. He and Kronner were solid.

As they said, "No passengers tonight". Everyone contributed. Filppula, great, Helm and Abby, awesome, Franzen, keep sniping buddy. The PP was lethargic and the two Phoenix goals were either impossible to stop and/or extremely fluky.

Oh, Cleary and Datsyuk...hit the ****ing EN next time please. Especially you Dan "I can't hit the net for ****" Cleary

Looked a little squiffy there in the 3rd, but for the most part, they put together their first complete game of the playoffs. I was expecting a trap game or a letdown, so I used up all my vBucks and killed my Streak for the Cash to get the mojo flowing (betting on the Yotes, of course).

Salei had a really solid game even if his butt did score the 2nd Yotes goal. Liked Abdelkader's game too. Not sure who I'll vote for yet, I'll decide in the morning. I don't think I'm going to vote for Pavel though. He didn't get much going and he was 50/50 at the dot to boot.

Howard
Kronner
Helm

HM: Cleary, Salei, Filp, Ericsson and everyone who played some sort of defence.

Coyotes offence is pretty simple but Wings defence was pretty solid under pressure. Impressed by attention to details.

coyotes just look dejected.

1) Helm -- Set the tone and Phx never recovered
2) Stuart -- Matched Phx ounce for ounce in intensity
3) Flip -- Had a couple great shifts in the first and second period

HM) By the end, Datsyuk was probably the best player of the game... but the game was 2-0 early and Dats never saw the need to go into hyperdrive until Phx pressed
HM) Miller -- Really awesome game from him. Showed the kind of grit you never see from this guy.
HM) Howard-- Deserves consideration, too.

I did not see the game, just the highlights. Anyhow
1. Kronwall, silently a great game with 2 assists and +3, leading the team in IT. Statistic-wise he is the clear 1st star of the game.
2. Helm, obviously he is killing their Dmen (Jovo) by his amazing forechecking.
3. Filppula, nice goal. His production in the playoffs is better than in the regular season. Nice.

HM Salei 1G and +3, Hulder 1A and +2, Howard.

This would be why they don't want to trade Flip despite all the "Flip Is a Waste" threads, even though he doesn't score a ton in the regular season. The guy puts up 40-50 points and plays good defense, and then in the playoffs he's a key contributor offensively and defensively because of his ability to control the puck.

Guys like Flip, Helm, Abdelkader, Eaves, etc are crucial in the playoffs because you can't go full-bore offensively all game, but you also can't sit back and play prevent. You have to kill the clock with puck possession. Abdelkader and Eaves are good at mucking in the corners, Helm uses his speed to get to the puck before the D, and Flip holds onto it as long as possible. I think that's why his scoring goes up in the playoffs - you control the puck long enough in the other team's end, and you're going to get chances.

People get too caught up with putting points up points in the regular season. If this team was always battling for a playoff spot it would hold more credence, but if guys like Fil and Franzen have rough stretches in the regular season but always turn it on for the playoffs, who cares?

1. Howard...his first period was outstanding and I don't think there's any doubt who's the better goalie in this series
2. Kronwall...involved on both goals in the first and has been really strong in the entire series
2. Helm...a puck battle leads to a goal, you don't have to score to make an impact
