Time for Holmgren/Laviolette to call out officials and NHL

I felt this way after the Pronger incident against Calgary earlier this season but now it really is the time to make a stink and embarrass the league and its officials by calling out their incompetence and hackery. You better believe the league is uber sensitive about its image and dreads such controversy.

I'd like to see Ed Snider as riled up as he was back in 1999, telling the league how incompetent they are. Go to 0:25.

Screw the fines. Just as long as they don't go against the cap next year.

Nothing went our way tonight, I'm more frustrated that we couldn't put anything past Miller than I am with the refs

Hal McRae had the right approach.

I didn't see the post-game, but it sounds like that's already happening.

I don't like complaining about officials in a game, but if you're getting jobbed by the same guy every time, that's a bit different.

Regardless, the Flyers had their chances to win, especially in the third. Briere has a 1-on-1 with Miller, and JVR had a puck go through his legs with an open net.

It worked with the Blackhawks complaining about Pronger last year.

It's the Flyers. The Broad Street Bullies. Goons. Lock up your women.

It won't help.

I'd rather them come out storming and not give the Sabres a chance at all. Whining about the officials

I was already in a foul mood before the Richards travesty, and just didn't go back to the game after the second period, knowing it wouldn't end well. Did the Flyers earn a 5-min PK or were the Sabres too embarrassed to try?

But complaining about how this team has developed a collective sense of scoring dementia is so 4 weeks ago.

Its not even whining. I havent been sour about the refs all series. I dont agree with all the calls and thought game 2 was a travesty, but the refs were calling the same ticky tack garbage both ways. Tonight however was a travesty. First the carcillo incident, then the richards major, then the blatant hand over puck in the crease with the ref standing directly over top, it all added up. St Laurent is a pile of ****.

Overall, the quality of officials has gone down over the past 10 years. Watch a football or baseball game, there's maybe one call you can debate. Watch an NHL game, and fans can debate up to a dozen calls from any game.

Buffalo fan here, and I completely agree. Some of the calls/no calls have been ridiculous both ways. Paul Devorski, Steve Kozari... names I'm gonna remember. I don't blame any of our loses on the refs, but there is some clear incompetence going on.

you raise the issue and then that's it. if you whine too much they'll bone you over even worse. if you plant the seed, that's how you get a call or two to go your way.

that being said, if one referee hates your team or your coach, i don't know how you fix that problem. hopefully the guy is just wildly incompetent and not actually trying to call the game unfairly.

i would prefer the latter because the former is even embarrassing for the league..

The league doesnt even know how to properly hand down consistent punishment, and it has trickled down to the refs. Tonight was an example of a ref calling by opinion and not by rule.

One team calling out the officials doesn't embarrass the league/officials, it embarrasses that team. Now if the Flyers AND Sabres both made it a point to raise a huge stink...then something might get done. I've heard that the officiating in the Pens/Bolts series has been pitiful as well. It's ashame this happens during the playoffs.

Yet it's our fault we lost that game, not the refs. Granted, that could have been 3 more minutes of even strength hockey for us to pour it on rather than killing an unwarranted Richards penalty, but we killed it...so it didn't harm us.

the blackhawks did it in the finals last year; pronger got called for ticky tack penalties and i don't recall anyone saying the blackhawks were embarrassing themselves.

Well Bob Mckenzie and Barnaby both said they dont think Richards will be suspended. Bobby Mac also said he thought it was just a 2 minute minor

I hope Francois St. Laurent chokes on a pile of rotten poutine. The guy was a horrible AHL referee and a even worse NHL referee. This has nothing to do with being bitter. I usually dont complain about the officials but tonight was a ******* disgrace.
