I used to be a big fan of Torres and thought you guys got an awesome game changer for the playoffs. One of my friends who's an oiler fan said Torres is dumber than Cooke and Bertuzzi when it comes to taking penalties. I made him eat it the night when Torres took out Seabrook and said to him the Canucks are going to crush the Hawks in game 4 for sure. Now I'm eating it.
Just wondering whether anyone catch the comments during the intermission about Torres being called a predator and the Hawks playing with hatred against the Canucks.
I haven't followed what Torres has done this season aside from the night when he ran over Eberle in Edmonton. Can he still score?
Torres used to park himself in front of the net and muck and grind for garbage goal. He'd also fly down the wing like Messier and bull his way into the goalie. I think if he's not doing that, AV should sit him.
Obviously, he's pissed off the entire Hawks team. If he's not there, the Hawks may have less of a purpose? Just my opinion.
Torres is a predator, but there is nothing wrong with that as long as he does it within the rules of the game. He nailed Seabrook like he's supposed to, like he's paid to. Right now he's effectively had his teeth pulled because he's under very close scrutiny and he doesn't want to cost his team...for him to be effective he has to play close to the edge and if he's concerned about going over he's basically useless to the team.
Torres may have fired up the Hawks with his hit, but we haven't responded in kind, we've shrunk away. It's not Torres' fault. Milbury, Hrudey and all the talking heads (with the exception of Bob MacKenzie) are idiots and should be disregarded.
If he can't do what he's supposed to do, he should be sitting. He's not a fossil in this league yet. He's not even 30 and he's turned himself into another one of those Cooke-type players.
It wasn't too long ago that he has hitting and driving to the net playing on the second line with Stoll and Pisani going all the way to the cup finals in 2006.
So from the sounds of things, he's turned into a goon. Quite sad. The guy has some talent and knows how to score, instead, what turned him into this 'mindless' player? A 5th overall pick and a 2-time OHL all-star......

if you've been listening the idiots on CBC for insight into the kind of player Torres is then you're a moron. those cretins are blowing things way out of proportion.
Torres can do all the things you've been talking about but he hasn't.
Mike and Kelly weren't wrong as much as I hate to say it. He's been rolling around, ignoring the puck entirely looking to hurt someone.
I hope he sits tomorrow.
i dont. and i dont know why canucks fans would. he was the only guy hitting last game when the rest of the team was totally absent. theres nothing wrong with having a great hitter like torres out there playing 4th line minutes. it would be a total positive if the team was playing somewhat decent around him, as we would gain momentum.
dont know why canuck fans are wanting to be less physical. if you keep pounding them physically and the core at least shows up, we win the series

I'd love for him to be more physical and throw hits all over the ice but if the refs are going to watch him like a hawk he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt on any big hits he makes and we'll be killing penalties. I'd love for him to be able to play but the way the NHL is right now the refs will call him for anything.

hes not even a goon. hes a great 4th line hitter. he is not very dirty (butt ends, big elbows, diving, pesty are not in his repertoire). yes the new rules now make him look like a "goon" who goes for headshots but thats what happens when you are a hitter and the rules change while your trying to put your best game on the ice.
he is a worthwhile nhl player. cbc commentators (other than milbury) just side on whose playing well and trash whose playing bad on a moment-to-moment basis. and ron mclean's ref side is really unbearable to watch every day come playoff time

he got no penalties last game and was our best hitter. i totally understand how the refs are gonna watch him, but he is not a "goon" hitter for the most part, and id rather have a physical bottom 6 and rely on the top 6 to perform, than totally lose track of what made us successful and what was envisioned for this team

Colin Campbell wrongfully made him a goon after his hit to Eberle, all the talking heads re-inforced his goon status after the Seabrook hit and now everyone, including some Canuck fans have put that label on him, and unfortunately it's going to follow him for the rest of his days in the NHL which may have been shortened because of it.

I don't even recall any of his hits last game so it doesn't seem like they had any impact. Lapierre has been our most consistent hitter in the series.
Torres doesn't have a track record as being a dirty hitter. He was one of the best hitters in the game 3-4 years ago and I see nothing in his MO that makes him predatory.
That being said, guys that hit that much are going to have a higher likelyhood of crossing the line. He isn't a dirty player.
But they LOVED Darcy Tucker, LAUD Tie Domi as one of the all time great Leafs, LOVE Dion Phaneuf... frickin' hypocrites... ignore them. I don't know whey anyone west of Hamilton watches these guys and I can't wait until someone outbids them for NHL rights.
I was baffled by that segment. Maybe I have homer glasses on, but I didn't see anything wrong with the Seabrook hit (apparently the NHL agrees), nor did I see Torres cheapshotting Smith.
If we weren't destroyed 5 - 0 last night, I think this thread would be 30 pages by now.
That was a nice knee-to-knee he gave Ben Smith last night. Torres is a dirty POS. Period. I'm not sure how you could miss the cheap shot he hit Smith with. It was pretty blatant.

If it was dirty don't you think he would have gotten a penalty? If it was so bad don't you think he'd get supplemental discipline. There are at least 4 pairs of eyes on him at all times, if he was guilty of something he would have gotten something...quit whining.

Maybe Milbury, but I don't recall Hrudey saying anything special about Tucker or Domi (especially since Hrudey's playing career was at the same time as Domi's)... Are you confusing them with Cherry?

Not to mention they highlighted his clean shoulder to shoulder hit on 6'8 John Scott as proof he's just a predator looking to injure people out there - it was laughable. There have been a couple hits this year by Torres that were very questionable but not one them happened last night.
I agree though that he needs to shift his focus first and foremost on the puck. He's simply not helping his line if he's not trying to generate forward momentum and helping create some offense. I'm hoping the coaching staff make him adjust his priorities but I'm not holding my breath.
