I'm tired of these crack-induced proposals where other teams gain our #1 center for their middling players, and think we'll be pleased because we aren't happy with his cap hit.

Of course ... Chara is also a better player than Spezza

Chara > Spezza in the regular season
Spezza > Chara in the playoffs

I guess the real question is...does Spezza get you into the playoffs in the first place?

Spezza is better than Chara on any team, in the regular season and the playoffs. Pretty much any team would take a PPG, 56%+ faceoff two-way #1 C over a #1 D. Especially if Spezza continues his play that he showed for the last 30 games of the year.

I like you sales pitch for Spezza. It's even funnier how you undersell Chara as just a #1 D. We all know he's more than just a #1 D, he's in the top 3-5 D in the NHL and can completely dominate an opponent. Where would you rank Spezza as a #1 C in the NHL?

As an outsider looking in from Buffalo and trust me I hate the Sens lol. Spezza is really underrated by people on these boards. as a SAbres fan i hate Spezza because hes not on my team and I would give up a lot more then this for him. You dont come across a number 1 center that is as good as him in more then just 1 category.

I like how Habs fans pretend that they know more about what Chara brings than Sens fans do. You DO realize he played years for us and that we're the team that developed him into what he is, right?

Very well said.

A #1 center is much harder to get than a #1 D. Just ask Leaf fans, as well as fans of over half the league's teams how hard it is to find a legit #1 C.

It's not a sales pitch. If I have my way Spezza will be a Sen for the rest of his career. It's like has been said many, many times on this board already. #1 C is the hardest piece of a team to find, and is the least likely piece to ever be moved. Defencemen are relatively easy to acquire by comparison.

Spezza is a top 10 C in the league, and while Chara might be a top 5 D in the league that doesn't mean that he's more valuable than Spezza when you take into account that D =/= C. If you take a centre and a defenceman of equal relative ability the centre will always hold more value -- it has pretty much always been that way in hockey. Top forwards are just valued more.

Spezza > Chara. It's not like it's by much, or that Chara would be horrible to have on any team. Ottawa is still sore for losing him, but we'd be in a much worse position losing Spezza than we were losing Chara.

I have read many of your posts and you always seem to be instigating or condescending towards the other posters

Around here, we'd have to throw in Karlsson.

To BOS: Spezza + Karlsson
To OTT: Kreci + TOR 1st

Two worthless players for a franchise center and most certainly a top line player with that pick.

Chara only lead the league in +/- this year. That's nothing special.

FWIW, didn't realize that Spezza and Krejci have exactly the same number of points over the last three years.

Can't think of a compelling reason for the Bruins to do this.

Spezza is an upgrade over Krejci, but not worth the extra 3 million a year in salary and certainly not worth a top 10 pick.

Go look at their line mates+team, then come back and talk to me.

Krejci:

2008-2009: Wheeler - Krejci - Ryder
2009-2010: Wheeler - Krejci - Ryder
2010-2011: Lucic - Krejci - Horton / Wheeler - Krejci - Ryder (when Savard came back)

Spezza:

2008-2009: Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
2009-2010: Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson
2010-2011: Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Krejci > Spezza including cap etc.

Ottawa should be adding.

fixed

He played some with different linemates up to his injury in december, when he came back and started racking up points he played with Greening and Butler.

They're both good players. At this point though it makes no sense moving Spezza for the Senators. He's a fairly young franchise center who plays PK/PP and is a good playmaker. Very improved in his own zone. His game got much better with the 'A' added to his jersey, right now he looks like good choice for captain when Alfie retires in a season or two.

They're better off keeping him moving forward.
