Canadian Teams On Russians

I find their aren't many russian stars on Canadian Teams.
What gives these guys may be a hit or miss but if they are bpa at draft, or solid free agent, they may succeed in a hockey environment.

ex: Filatov to ......
Semin as free agent in 2012 or trade
26 teams passing on Evgeny Kuznetsov

Thoughts???????

It's the city. Russians are most likely drawn to these cities:

New York
Boston
Detroit
Philly
Los Angeles
Washington
Chicago

Those cities are a lot better than Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, etc.. (no offense to anyone)

It's not Canada vs. US, it's the city.

I don't think anyone is drawn to Detroit for the city...

This is a myth. The reason most of the Russians in the NHL are on American teams is because they are playing for the team which drafted them. The last 2 Russian "stars" to reach UFA status signed with Canadian teams.

Detroit is one of the worst cities in North America. Players go there to win, not to enjoy life.

Its just too much of a risk. Canadian player a will be a 50 point player. Russian player will be a 60 point player. You would think take the russian player but the reward isnt worth the risk. Sure the player is a better player but what if the coach tells him to back check or scratches him, or the gm wants him to get some games at the ahl level.

There is instantly the threat of bailing to head back to the homeland which doesnt happen with north american players or even other european players.

Wow, that is pretty inflammatory. Sounds to me like for you, its Canada vs. the US. You are saying :

all American NHL cities >> all Canadian NHL cities

Which is a load of bull**** . Any player that actually wants to play where hockey matters, and oh, I don't know, can take a bit of pressure, would want to play in a Canadian city. If they want to skate (pun unintended) by and not get media or fan pressure, they play in Pheonix, Florida, Nashville, etc.

The caps took kuznetsov because they were the most confident that he would sign with them, mostly because of ovechkin. Only way I see russian ufa's going to a canadian team, it'd be because their is one/some already there. The leafs, sens, or habs probably have the best chance of signing semin(canadian wise) because they have kulemin, gonchar, and markov. It just depends if semin actually knows them. I'm sure if brian murray knew how good tarasenko would be at the WJC when he traded the 16th pick last year I think he would of picked him instead even if it was a risk, because game-breaking forward is their #1 need and it's not even close.

Which players were these? I think one you mention is Khabby, is Gonchar the other?
What about Kovy? He did technically hit UFA didn't he?
Or Volchankov? He signed in NJ too.

Just for being a city Vancouver wins hands down over any other NHL city except maybe NYC. For hockey well Vancouver is pretty good at that too.

because there r 6 Canadian teams and 24 American ones? seems to be Russian players on Candian teams too as people have pointed out just the country that has 1/5 of the leagues teams doesn't have one of the 3-4 Russian star forwards.

LMFAO

Like Ilya bryzcalov(wrong) said the other day about Winnipeg they want to go where there's other russians and some kind of Russian culture. I don't think there's much of that in Canada. Kinda like a Canadian would be out of place in say brazil

Maybe Bryz needs to get some facts about Winipeg.

He should contact:

there are plenty of russians on canadian teams (kulemin, markov, Gonchar), how does their skill level or nationality effect anything?

Yes the last Russian star signed with the great Canadian team of New Jersey. Probably went there to ***** slap snooki.

The Leafs have the best Russian born player on a Canadian team. You might not call him a star (yet) but you want him on your team and you want him badly!
