Yeah and what is the difference with my post? As I said 2 hit the top 60 in scoring. With Semin playing a full season it would have been 3. I did forget about Malkin though. So at best there are 5 top 60 Russians and 30 teams. Can you do the math on that? Malkin will play his career with the Pens IMO, Datsyuk will finish out his career with the Wings, Ovi will play out his career with the Caps IMO, Kovy will now play out his career with the Devils, Semin is the only one likely to hit ufa and no one can say where he'll end up. Who am I missing? Aside from the young Russians just starting out I don't see where I went wrong. It's such a useless argument anyway. How huge is the Swedish culture in Vancouver? As of last year there was a total of 33 Russians playing in the NHL. 4 play for Canadian teams. Who cares? In 2002-03 there were 57 Russians in the NHL now it's 33. In 2002-03 there were 140 Americans in the NHL. Last year there were 207. 24 less Russians and 67 more Americans. Now add in the KHL and people may start to understand a bit. It has nothing to do with teams being Canadian and Russians not wanting to play there. Just because Bryzgalov doesn't want to play in Winnipeg which most players don't doesn't mean none of them want to play in Canada.

LOL at the premise of this thread. If the Sedin twins were Russian or if Markov wasn't injured there would be no discussion about this whatsoever.

The funnest part is the OP mentions Filatov and then the argument that gets the most traction is "LMFAO Russians want to play in the US" -- the guy was DRAFTED by Columbus, he didn't just choose to play in the US.

One would think someone would need to actually post some NUMBERS before drawing a conclusion, but I've yet to see that.

Here's another controversy -- those socialist kids from Denmark only want to play in Canada.

To give you guys an idea of Russian populations in Canada

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Canadian

This is from 4 years ago so the numbers would be bigger today.

The largest Russian festival in NA is held in Toronto every year

http://www.russianfestival.ca/matryoshka/2010/

So yeah there's Russian culture and communities in Canada for any Russian interested.

The Leafs have the best Russian born player on a Canadian team. You might not call him a star (yet) but you want him on your team and you want him badly!

GO LEAFS GO
WRONG the leafs aren't close the having the best Russian. Kulemin is a nice player but something tells me people would say Ovi or Malkin are the best Russian. That would be the debate. Just a hunch. IMO I'd rather have either of them over Kulemin. Gotta love the homer glasses

update -- quick look at Yahoo active rosters

US teams: 26 players (on 24 teams)
Canadian teams: 5 players (on 6 teams)

This is active roster so it doesn't include Markov, Malkin and other injured Russian players. Not a significant difference between Canada and the US.

Yes, because Canadian posters on these boards never offer up stereotypes of American cities.

...wasn't the slam on Vancouver only by the one poster?

That is the Bronx circa ~1970-1980, not Detroit.

Either way it's how Detroit looks today. Can't say I blame him for posting it. If you want google image Detroit and you can pick from a variety of beauties
