Luckily for them, Johansson is a ****ing player.
Agreed. I thought that Nicky played his best game of the series yesterday, so that's encouraging. Process (form) usually arrives before results, so perhaps he's on the precipice of putting it all together again.

I still don't think people fully grasp how valuable Wideman can be to our team during this run. Puck movers are the foundation of a devastating offense, and Wideman is a fantastic puck moving defenseman. With a healthy Wideman, barring another injury, we'd never go an even strength shift without a defenseman that can move the puck up the ice instantaneously via a pin-point stretch pass, or a defenseman that can join the rush from the backend and legitimately serve as a dangerous offensive threat at a moments notice (Carlson, Green, Wideman.)

That added mobility, that additional offensive flashpoint on top of what we have already is going to be terribly difficult for opponents to deal with going forward.

I'm rooting for the Sabres. The sooner Philly is out of this thing the better imo.

It feels weird not having to play 7 games.

I agree. The Hannan/Erskine pair is great at what it does but Hannan/Wideman will be valuabe at both ends of the ice.

This may have already been asked/answered but has anyone heard any news on Green's condition? I saw him back out on the bench after the shot but that doesn't mean much. No Wideman or Green will really do damage on the powerplay...and Green was the only player to post a point in every game this series. ****

Possibily referencing the hit to the head Green took from Staal in game 3(?) right before the Ovechkin goal that wasn't whistled. I might (if i'm the coach) bring it up before the next series too, since Green apparently has some kind gypsy curse on him.

Edit: re-worded for clarity

For what it's worth, now that the NHL is so strict on concussions, they wouldn't have let him back on the bench if he didn't clear the "quiet room" tests. Boudreau said he should be fine too, but take that w/ a grain of salt too. Could go either way, but both give the impression that it wasn't as bad as it looked.

Buffalo up 1-0, they win and they get the automatic trip to DC

I'd be happy w/ Buffalo, but I hope Philly takes them to 7 and Pronger sends them off w/ a few extra bruises.

Edit: 2-0 now. So much for game 7

I don't get it, why are the Flyers not using Pronger? Why even dress him?

Edit: He's out now.

I'm sure whoever the Caps play in the second round will be a tough test. So just sit back and hope every series goes the distance and everyones banged up and fatigued from their round 1.

Any rough idea when a Sabres/Caps game 1 would be?

Not as good as Lundqvist, nor is that defense. Buffalo's offense concerns me more, especially after the Caps just played such a weak offensive team with such a pathetic PP.

Tyler Myers is probably top 3 among dmen in terms of "controlling" Ovechkin. It'll be a fun game within the game over a series if it happens.

I almost want to play the flyers. If Buffalo can put up three in a period on the flyers two games in a row, imagine what the caps could do...

Which may mean moving him over to RW at times to go up against Butler.

Buffalo's defensemen join the rush all the time. That alone makes for an intriguing stylistic matchup.

Neither the Sabres nor the Flyers look tough. I say the Bruins are the Caps biggest opponents, other than themselves.

My dream scenario: Flyers, Bruins and Lightning all win their series'. Caps play Bolts. Caps are better than the Bolts, they're more complete and they'll have HIA. They'd win that series in 6 at the most IMO. Flyers beat the Bruins...somehow, I'd hope. Caps-Flyers. 1-2. They'd push us 6 or 7, but their goaltending is just so bad. Ovechkin against those clowns? Could average 2 ppg.
