Some close races in there, including the Gaborik one. Short-term memory.

If we are about to send out a line with Gaborik and Richards and Wolski...just who will get them the puck ? We better find somebody to ride shotgun and while we are at it a pick up like Bieska would look pretty nice on the back end and Hank would probably have a bit more protection along with Staal & Girardi who get manhandled a lot in the heavy going . Bieska is a lion and all heart and does add a nice bit of offense too !

What? That line wouldnt be a dump and chase line. They would carry the puck over the blue line and then set up. First off, Wolski actually played well in the playoffs and has the speed and skill to score or help set up plays. Richards and Gaborik are both elite offensive players. I dont get where you are comming from with who will get them the puck.

Plus if wolski doesnt work out on that type of line, then you know its time to trade him and his 3.8m in salary. He would be a good asset along with a 2nd that could get his a pick in the mid 1st round and save us salary to go after another player

ha dude what are you talking about? that line would be a free skating, up tempo, skill line that would keep defenders on their heels. Gabby, Richards, and Wolski have all shown they can handle the grind.

Wolski Richards Gaborik
Dubi Anisimov Cally

I dont think you seperate the Pack Line with how well they played all year long, and with an actual 1st line ahead of them, they will be even better playing against a teams 2nd pairing defensman.

22% ofthe people voting on this pole should be deemed mentally insane, straightjacketed, sedated, locked up and forced to swallow the key. They actually voted to "Keep Sather".

I would offer Parise 8 million for 6 years just to piss Lou off, then target Richards.

Sign Feds, ask Prospal to participate in training camp on a tryout contract.

"OMFG! NO! Stay the course! They will all be NHL superstars in a few years!"

Sorry guys but we do not have any 1c talent in the pool, maybe we get lucky and Stepan blows up in to the playmaking center we all dreamed, but if he doesn't... yeah.

Something has to give.
This sums it up rather nicely.

The players in the system won't fill the holes we need to fill. We will need to look outside the org wether it's Sather doing the shopping or not.

Let's just hope he can find a way to infuse some talent without destroying the core or giving out another "worst contract in professional sports"

Prospal wants to be back, per Zipay.

Boyle expects to be re-signed promptly. One would imagine no arbitration- per Jesse Spector.

Spector also said Callahan said he didn't expect to have trouble re-signing.

I wanted him last time he was a UFA, but we didn't sign him; Erik Cole. He's a veteran that can finish, plays in all situations, and would be a great 2nd/3rd RWer for us. If we can somehow shed contracts (Redden be gone, Drury retiring/buyout, or Wolski buyout), I'd want to go after Cole. He will probably resign with 'Canes, but he's from Upstate NY (Oswego) and played at Clarkson. At least make a run at him.

I will say to you all, what I said to one of my friends on Facebook the other day.

The Rangers cannot do anymore with the farm system. They have done as much rebuilding with it as they can. All of the "home grown" elements are in place. What the Rangers need now are difference makers.

What do I mean by that? Very simple. They now need to go out there, and get the pieces that will put them up there with the elite teams. The Washingtons, the Pittsburghs, the Phillys..those are the teams they need to compete with. And in order for them to do that. They need a legitimate play making center, a legitimate puck moving defenseman/power play quarterback, and Gaborik either has to bounce back next year, or they need to get rid of him, and get another legitimate scoring sniper, which as you all know, are very hard to come by.

How are they going to do all of this? Very simple. Trades. Am I saying they mortgage the future? No. But Sather, for all his idiocy with free agency, seems to do a lot better with trades. And you can't hold on to every piece in the system, and not all of them are going to pan out anyway. They already have a nice established young core, that is in place, and it very good.

But they now need to add to it. And they have the pieces in the system that they can trade in order to do that. So yes, get Brad Richards if you can (as long as it is not a ridiculous contract), but make trades. Instead of Sather getting rid of a big contract for an expiring one, trade a few pieces for something that is REALLY going to pay off (think Rick Nash, or someone along those lines).

That is what they need to do, and if they don't, then I'm sorry, but they will never be any higher then a 5th or 6th seed, and will never get past the 2nd round. Cause what they have now is pretty good, but will never be elite as currently constituted, and that is no offense to what they currently have now.

Also..sorry, I am repeating what might have been said 5 or 6 pages ago..haven't had time to read through everything with work, and stuff..took me 2 hours just to put this post together!

Well one thing better happen this offseason is a lacrosse championship on Memorial Day to cheer me up.

Besides that, I'd like to add some size and nastiness on the back line, get Kreider out of Animal House, and maybe a cheap veteran scorer who can add 15-20 goal depth without breaking the bank. With Callahan and Gaborik's history of landing on the DL, we need some depth on offense.

I'm thinking more long term here, going for a top center and a puck-moving defensemen in the near future when more pieces are in place.

EDIT: Oh and I want Drury off the books.

For most, it was "no." He's benefiting from circumstance, as there are really no great FAs out there this summer. Last year, Kovalchuk was a different story; he was someone worth spending serious cash one. Richards, not so much.

Signing Richards is a repeat of the Gomez and Drury mistakes.
Yes. He's an elite center and has been so for awhile.

How about signing Teemu Selannen. Offer him some crazy one year deal (4-5 mils). 30 goals right there.

One year deal so it really doesn't matter. 80(31 goals) points in 73 games this season. And six(6) goals in six(6) playoff games!! That is pretty good.

I think Stepan can be a 70+ point player. He has the smarts. Just needs to work on his skating IMO.

Also as much as i'd just like us to make a bid for Richards and then stay the course, I can't say I haven't become interested in adding a guy like Jussi Jokinen or something like that.

What do guys think about Erik Cole? He's 33, but provides leadership, and the guy can still fly.

I think he'd be a nice compliment to Richards and Gaborik.

Cole only plays well in Carolina, and he really likes it there. They'll re-sign him.
