NJ and the Leafs

To New Jersey:
Tyler Bozak
Carl Gunnarsson
Ben Scrivens

To Toronto:
Travis Zajac

Toronto trades two-way 3rd line C with high faceoff win%, a young PMD on the rise, and a decent goalie prospect that hasn't had under a .920 save % in years, for a guy who can be a top-6 scoring threat coming off a disappointing season. NJ also gains some cap relief from this deal even after Bozak and Gunnarsson are re-signed.

Bring it on!

Nope

Zajac will only be traded for a center that is an upgrade.

I don't see how it's not at least ballpark value, considering Zajac is a 60-point centre who had a bad season. You probably get 60 points between Gunnarsson and Bozak next year and Scrivens could be in the NHL next year.

I'm not really sure Zajac is a Kadri or Schenn-type return. Maybe that's what the fans would want, but if NJ asks for them I ask for Zach Parise. However that one's iffy with his injury...

Edit: How about if the defenceman is Keith Aulie?

Bozak
Aulie
Scrivens

Up the ante with the d prospect here. Aulie is a huge stay-at-home d-man, great reach. Less offence than Gunnar but much more shutdown value.

Why would they want to trade Zajac in the first place? Think about both teams involved before making a proposal.

Parise is worth Kadri or Schenn alone, maybe even packaged together. Zajac is not worth them however.

Still not a good offer. The only player i would like for Zajac is, Schenn. However, its not fair value.

Like others have said, New Jersey isn't going to trade Zajac unless it's to upgrade. Centre is already a weakness for them, so they certainly can't be downgrading there... it's actually a lot like Toronto & Grabovski, who they could only afford to trade for a clear upgrade.

You have no clue of the Devils Cap .

They can easily reisgn Parise, and sign a PMD. While still resigning our Free Agents.

Pretty much the only other guy I would consider switching would be Colborne, so it would be

Colborne
Aulie
Scrivens

But I'm assuming that wouldn't get it done either.

Yeah, making cap space to re-sign your franchise forward by moving your best center and the pivot said forward has predominantly played with for his whole career in exchange for two scrubs and a goalie prospect seems like a terrific plan.

The Devils will have roughly $10mil in cap space to re-sign two bottom pairing defensemen, a backup goaltender and Parise. Why the hell would they need to clear out Zajac's $4mil?

this would be a steal for the Leafs if it were to happen (it won't) I think Zajac can be a#1 center he and Kessel would be solid

devils say no

quantity vs quality

devils will have about 30mill to spend on 12 players--so they are not as bad as some people think in regards to the cap

a third line center is still a third line center..Z'd gets top 6 minutes

with the goalie you are leaving out some key details

33games at the AHL level--Cornell while a good school does not play in the best hockey league of universties--so using his stats come with a ***. also at 25(26 this fall) he is still a project and from what little I have seen of him--he has not done anything special to raise his value.

Best Player in the deal is Z'd and devils are better with him then what is being offered and it would actually cost more to resign the pieces then Z'd makes. Bosak hit most of his bonus so the devils would need to offer him the same contract he got at 3mill a year

maybe, MAYBE if Josefson becomes a true #1 and we draft Couturier, and Henrique pans out, then Zajac would become available. but as of right now, he is our only legit top 6 centre and therefore only available for an upgrade.

Leafs say no. Especially not trading Colborne, considering that he has the potential to put up similar numbers to Zajac (mabey even more ), and gunnarson/aulie are very important to our top 4 next year and hopefully many years to come

this is the bestest threading everer

NJ fans:....no no no we hate crazy Leafs fans and their crazy proposals because our players are just way way more valuable and there are no cap issues at all in Jersey... it doesn't matter that we have @9.2 in real space need to sign Travis, a goalie and two Dmen and will be up against it with no flex again ........Lou and Marty are still aboard and thats all you need to know

Leafs fans:....... here's some fairly decent players, one of everything you need that will cost you less than 4m a year, even though we know they're Leafs and have absolutley no chance of ever succeeding in the NHL cause you tell us so, we're still going to offer them. Glad all the other fans figured out that Kaberle wouldn't get us a 1st, oh wait 2 firsts and we didn't waste time there either.

that about cover it

It's actually 12.7 mil to sign PARISE, a backup goalie, and two D-men.

Parise gets 6.5 mil.
Backup goalie gets 1.2 mil TOPS.
The D-men are Greene at 2 mil and Taormina at ~600K.

That leaves us with 2.4 mil to call up whatever reserves we want. Some combo of Pelley at 500k, Henrique at 850k, Urbom at 800k and Salmela at 750k sounds good to me.

Try again.

Well the signing figures are logical predictions, but I'll present you with a roster that most Devil fans agree is the most logical and cap compliant. Too lazy to organize by line combo so without further ado:

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

Ilya Kovalchuk ($6.666m) / Patrik Elias ($6.000m) / Brian Rolston ($5.062m)
Travis Zajac ($3.887m) / Dainius Zubrus ($3.400m) / David Clarkson ($2.666m)
Dave Steckel ($1.100m) / Jacob Josefson ($0.900m) / Mattias Tedenby ($0.875m)
Nick Palmieri ($0.801m) / Rod Pelley ($0.550m) / Adam Henrique ($0.854m)
Zach Parise ($6.500m) / Vladimir Zharkov ($0.700m)

DEFENSEMEN
Anton Volchenkov ($4.250m) / Henrik Tallinder ($3.375m)
Colin White ($3.000m) / Alexander Urbom ($0.878m)
Mark Fayne ($0.542m) / Andy Greene ($1.200m)

Zajac is the Devils #1 center, perhaps the best defensive forward they've had since Holik, signed to a cap friendly contract, has great chemistry with either of the team's star wingers, AND is BFFs with the Devils best forward who we're trying to re-sign this offseason.

If you think the Devils are going to trade that for a defensemen who gets less TOI than Travis does, a guy who put up 32 points and was a -29 this year, and a goalie prospect (albeit my favorite goalie prospect in the league), you're out of your mind.
