Either way, I'd rather make our cap-clearing deal before the draft rather than after we sign Bryz.

I thought i heard last year columbus gave him his best offer for something like 2 million a year and he turned it down and took the million for a chance at the cup. okay well since the beginning of this post i understand the love for torres(provides jam and a big body) but don't want him for anymore than 2 million at all maybe 1.75 would be a good fit? Would prefer 1.5 then i think it would be perfect

i just assume he'll be getting higher offers from other teams. I liked what I saw in the playoffs, he's a medium body with speed and nasty hitting ability, but at no sacrifice to skill. He's like an improved version of Carcillo.

also with that roster I just posted I would not overlook trading kimmo for picks, I love timonen but he seems to have lost a step and has a big cap hit, if we could get a nice pick and sign someone like wizniewski, or bieksa would it be such a drop off?

I doubt trading Kimmo is an option with Homer right now. Kimmo's likely told him that he's retiring after his current contract, if they don't win the Cup next year. He also has the NMC, which may not mean much for some players, but probably does for him.

Also, I don't think Bryz signs for $4.25 million.

Ya sorry I forget to add 1.25 mill to bryz salary, anway I agree on the Kimmo thought ... I was just throwing it out there... I imagine he was playing poorly at the end of the year because he was hurt just like 3/4 of the team. I like to believe with a game changing goalie in the net the players wont have to play so nervous and cautious as they did before... it makes a big difference in the mindset, and it will allow them to pressure much more.

Agreed on all counts. Bryz could do wonders for this team.

Is that now a fact? Last I heard it was not locked in and was on the table... I never heard it was decided on, but never heard it wasn't either.

To me it's not fair to not ease it in... but I suppose the thinking is that i should have been considered/planned for.

For the teams that have a lot of Cap space there is no problem... and for some Small Market teams it is a benefit if they gave bonuses... but for the Big Spenders who have or planned on riding near the top it can be a killer, like a Cap decrease almost as I see it.

The bonus cushion allows a team to defer their bonuses to the next year. As of right now, there is no CBA for 2012-2013, so there is no bonus cushion for next year. I also believe that last year was the last year that the NHL and NHLPA were able to extend the current CBA.

Yep... theoretically if a CBA were worked out quickly I imagine the cushion would be back. We had a year with no cap cushion a couple years ago I believe.

Yeah, the cushion really isn't a problem. Actually, I don't think much is going to change in the next CBA. The big thing, I think, will be closing the lifetime contract loophole.

Okay, I'm following you on the elapsed CBA and Cushion... But without it the Flyers ability to fit in Bryz and sign Leino without losing an important player is greatly hindered... so IMO is IS a problem. Also, it eliminates new signings with bonuses that won't take from the Cap. For the Flyers it is bad, for the Panthers and such it helps.

What good is that 5,568 for? Might as well spend it all, give it to leino to "sweeten" his deal.

This would be one of the best teams on paper since the lockout.
Paper Champs!!!!
