First post, but a huge Flyers fans. Here is my take on the team next season. I personally think it's a decent looking team.

Obviously there are a couple of contracts in there TBA/TBC and lines can be re-jigged, but I don't think any are too unrealistic.

What do you guys think?

sorry to come in and don't stay on topic, but I like that this thread has over 650 posts now. I started this just to get 10-15 answers and see what you think

BTW, you will have a hell of a team going forward. Maybe not next year but we will meet us again in the SC Finals

Let's assume for a moment that Stamkos is possible. Trade Carle and Hartnell *or bury him in the minors of not willing to waive NTC*. Simmonds and Voracek are considered at best case scenario for RFAs. We forget Leino and keep Shelley. Try to get some UFAs at lower cap hits.

Again, best case scenario. Anyone that can't be acquired would have to be filled with a lower-cost Phantom, and we do have some in the system that can handle the load, if need be, but it's not optimal.

I like Fleischmann, but I'm wary of his injuries, much like Gagne. Fleischmann is a very good and underrated player.

Hartnell isn't going anywhere. If Homer/Mr. Snider want more size up front then I doubt they're going to move their only legitimate power forward. If somehow we end up with Stamkos then I'd have to imagine if two of Versteeg, Carle or Bobrovsky are moved.

Zero interest on Babchuk. You need more than 20 players.

Terrible team. Makes no sense to have Schenn on the 4th line. No thanks to Fleishman and Samsonov. Defense is terrible.

This. We've actually regressed in size/grit. We need to find a way to get Cole, Rupp, and Konopka, or something like that.

Size on the wings:

Voracek - 6'1", 205pds
Simmonds - 6'2", 185pds
Hartnell - 6'2", 210pds
van Riemsdyk - 6'3", 210pds
Versteeg - 5'10", 180pds
...

Looking good! I see Erik Cole being signed by the Flyers tomorrow, if not in Carolina. If Carolina gives him a good offer though, he'll stay. Therefore, I think the Flyers need to pursue both Leino and Cole heavily so they don't lose the leads on both. I doubt Gagne will be pursued, let alone want to come here again.

Priorities for tomorrow would be; a) sign Leino! b) if not Leino, Cole. c) O'Donnell or veteran 6th defenseman. d) 4th line character players, preferably someone with faceoff skill.

Just my $.02.

I just met Scott today at the airport. I think he was in town golfing. He seemed like a really nice guy, I asked him about Carter and Richards and he said it will be weird for sure. Then when I brought up Couturier, it seemed like he hadn't heard of him..."is that kid any good?" He was probably just messing around, but ya off topic I know but he was a really cool guy.

Looking good? Honestly MTL is about the same size we are now. They have a couple guys who are 6'3" 215. We need size. Putting Versteeg up there didn't help your argument. Playing the Pittsburghs, Tampa Bays, Washingtons, and most of all...Boston's of the world is going to get our forwards destroyed. Add Buffalo to that list now...

How about Zus and Tyler Kennedy?

Hartnell - Briere - Voracek
JvR - Roo - Kennedy
Simmonds - Schenn - Versteeg
Nodl - Handzus - Betts
Sestito

Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Mez - Gus
Bart

Bryz
Bob

Get Kennedy for around 3, Zus would have to take a serious paycut, but he'd be welcomed with open arms. Also, size up the middle!

Vrbata/Leino/Briere - Briere/Couturier/Richards - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds
JVR - Giroux - Zherdev/Versteeg
Versteeg/Sestito/Testwuide - Betts - Nodl

Timonen - Coburn
Pronger - Carle
Meszaros - Marshall/Syvret/Marc-Andre Bourdon/ F.A.

NOTES:
Line 1: It would be nice to get Ville Leino signed, but if not, then maybe Vrbata. Ideally, however, adding Brad Richards would be super fantastic, but I think he would sign with Torts and the Rangers over the FLyers (Rangers have more cap room, too), so I'm not really expecting Brad in Orange and Black duds. If Flyers can't get either Leino or Vrbata, then maybe Couturier can center a line with Briere and Voracek.
Line 2: I think I like it, providing Schenn is ready; I think he is.
Line 3: Pretty substantial 3rd line, if you ask me. I like Zherdev over Versteeg, assuming the Flyers get him signed. Remember the majic Giroux and Zherdev had in spurts last season. JVR and Giroux also have some good chemistry.
line 4: checking line: throw the best checkers we got on it, whoever they turn out to be; if we can get some scoring from the line, thats a bonus.

TRADES/Free Agency:
1. - Get either Brad Richards, Vile Leino or Vrbata signed from free agency.
2. - Trade Versteeg (or send to minors: lose the salary hit!) and pick up Eric Cole, who colud play on any of the lines. Or, just trade Versteeg and use the salary elsewhere.
3. - Get stronger 6th defenseman, if possible.

Huh...? I wouldn't say we need size. Toughness? Yeah, maybe. Size? We're actually bigger as a whole I'd say than Boston.

Size doesnt = power forward. Carter had size. You need a few guys that are agressive like Hartnell. Simmonds fits the bill, but a little light at less than 200lbs....Boston had Horton and Lucic.

Yeah, that's not size; that's toughness and aggression. If your argument was that we need "size," Lucic would be pretty much the only example, in terms of forwards.
