Well we have acomplete team with real pkers and rws and everything. At least we got that going for us which is nice. Pardy and Fiddler have a chance to be permanent parts although Pardy was overpaid. Dowell will be worth it over Peterson too hello face-off win. Still, this team is pretty shallow in scoring and lost its best scorer and replaced him with depth a 20 goal scorer and whatever Souray still is. I actually think Newy did ok given we still are broke and have no owner. Nothing over 3 years and maybe Dvorek and Souray have value at the deadline. Still this team is far away .

Oh dear, Connolly will be making 250,000 less than Ribeiro.

The offensive output of this team is going to be interesting to track, especially relative to goals against. While I am a strong advocate that "hard to play against" depends on your perspective (Detroit is hard to play against but because they are brutish), on paper this roster does look better equipped to truly compete on a nightly basis.

Depending on how Gulutzan composes the lines there is the very real possibility that this team can roll their lines and not count on their best forwards to play 21+ minutes per game. We see it every spring that the teams most able to compete in the playoffs are those who can play their 4th line without holding their breath; they believe that their 8 min/gm guys aren't going to hurt them and they may even put a fair amount of pressure on the other team.

All in all if this is the roster come opening night I'm fine with it. Pardy is a bit of an unknown as is Souray at this point. I'm not very familiar with Dowell but at worst he seems like a good 4th line center option. What we end up getting out of Ryder is a bit of an unknown as well but playing with Ribeiro we should expect 20 goals for him on the low end.

I think the best signing they made though, aside from maybe Ryder, is Fiddler. This team has needed a guy with just his profile for the past 3-4 years. A few years back I wanted Malhotra because I thought the same thing then. Getting Fiddler now though is big. The fact that you know exactly what to expect from a guy is huge; this is one aspect of signing a veteran that sometimes gets undervalued. Rob Dimaio never did anything particularly impressive during his time here but what was impressive was his consistent level of compete. You always knew what to expect from him. I file the Fiddler signing in the same category. This team just got a lot more certain of what to expect from it's 3rd line center (I'm assuming). I'm not giddy over the signing but I am optimistic about him and the others as well as having Goligoski to begin the season.

I feel the Stars became much more balanced and have addressed a few (but not all) fundamental aspects of making this team better. Brad money truly well spent.

I don't know why people believed he wouldn't be making some serious coin. He always wanted (and received) the dough that he was looking for based on talent and not production. I doubt Burke "overpaid" as someone would've paid him that money anyway. Just glad it wasn't Dallas.

Anybody think Miettinen could be had on a fairly cheap one-year deal?

I don't want Mittens back. I never liked him when he was here.

Has he fixed his excessive turnover issue yet?

I think Konopka might be the best option remaining. You can't have too many guys to win a face-off.

The upside to Miettinen is he can be competent in a Top 6 role. That'd be nice when Ott is in an extended slump.

IMO, Dallas would need to dump Barch or Peterson to sign/trade for another guy. Toby is a perfect 13th forward. He'd be a waste to move this season, but he'll likely be much easier to move. I can't imagine many teams having much interest in Barch unless Tip would take him.

I'd be surprised if Dallas carried 14 forwards now that they have already passed the floor. They wouldn't waste that money, IMO, because they'd want to be as flexible as possible.

I'm ok with the signings. Though I would have much preferred spending a little extra money and getting White instead of signing Pardy for what we did.

By the looks of it, the strategy this year is going to be score 2-3 goals and rely on your PK, defensive forwards, and goaltending to win some games.

Scoring will come in the next few years as Glennie and our other forward prospects progress.

I imagine he's pretty similar to the player that wasn't re-signed here; turnovers and missed glorious scoring opportunities, etc. I wouldn't mind him on a one year deal, however if the option is to add Miettinen or subtract Barch by playing him in the minors then I take option B. I'm not really sure how he'd fit, probably on the Benn-Eriksson line, but he's not a bad player. He's almost the definition of a baseline 2nd line winger.

What is going to be happen to Fistric? I could easily see him getting traded soon, but what can he fetch us? A top 6 forward to play on Benn and Loui's line?

I see Fistric and Wandell being packaged with a pick to bring in a playmaking winger.

I'm still not sure I like Steve Ott in a top six role. Now that Chris Drury has been bought out, does anyone like the idea of bringing him in on a cheaper contract, a la Souray, to maybe skate with Eriksson and Benn and provide some mentorship? If he's healthy, I think he still has a lot to give, mind you, that likely holds up another younger player.

I wouldn't mind it. But I rather go for something better.

You're not comfortable with Ott in a top 6 role but you're comfortable with Drury in a top 6 role?

I'd take a chance on drury, as long as it is a short contract length.

just curious but looking at the names left what happened to O'sullivan. demoted to AHL then puts up huge numbers. Can't he play a scoring wing role especially if his linemates are erikkson and benn -worth a look

Will Drury even be healthy for this coming season? Last thing I remember reading was that his knees were giving him trouble and might force him to retire.

Drury is a great 3rd line PKer at this point, not a top 6 option. Trust me I watched him all last year here in NY. He'd be wonderful for FOs, PKing, and leadership. But not an offensive threat.
