Who's walking this offseason

I think this is obvious. 4 guys I would for sure let walk on July 1:
Connolly
Montador
Lalime
STAFFORD

It's time for change, you don't sign a player because he's "good on the penalty kill" as everyone says connolly is. And montador has been a train wreck most of the season.

In regards to Stafford, it's his first 30 goal season, but he was GOD awful in the playoffs. He's an inconsistent player and doesn't perform when it matters.

If I'm the front office I go HARD after Brad Richards and a veteran d-man like Bieksa or Erhoff. If they want to take a chance on Markov or McCabe even though they didn't play much this season, I say go for it but not until they make a run at those other guys.

lets see what they do with no handcuffs.

Connolly is really the only one id like to see gone, but if they dont have a replacement they need to sign him another year (i dont think he would want to stay here another year)

and obviously Lalime is gone

Two guys who they SHOULD get rid of, but won't:

Brad Boyes
Jordan Leopold

There's a whole thread on offseason activity. And you're going to get ripped hard for including Stafford in that group and justifiably so.

How does Stafford get a free pass?

He is a goal scorer that scored 1 goal and was a non-factor in the series.

Connolly, Lalime, and likely Grier are gone. Montador could go either way. I think Stafford is attractive trade bait, and he could be a useful chip in acquiring a top 6 center. If they can deal him in a package for a guy like Stastny, I'd do it in a heart beat. Of course, Stastny would also require Enroth++.

Thats what I thought you meant but I'm pretty sure the OP is talking about specific players and how they played.

That really has little to do with the front office being handcuffed.

For what reason? Let Stafford go score 30 goals for some other team, I'll take a hard worker who gives it all he has every night and a proven winner for that chump. 1 goal in the playoffs is a joke for a guy who got pushed around left and right is going to be commanding near $4mil. No way in hell I give up that much.

I'm not saying he deserves a free pass but to say it's obvious he needs to go is a bit ridiculous. I would be willing to shop him but I'm not itching to just dump him off either.

Stafford

Stafford ABSOLUTELY needs to be included in this list. He Continues to be a playoff BUST. i dont care how well a player plays during the season, if you cant play when it matters most, we dont need that garbage on our team. We already have to many players that cant perform in the playoffs. I personally want stafford GONE. The contract hes going to demand, or be rewarded will not be worth it and will only contribute to further making our team struggle. He is definitely Not worth more then 2 million, and hell prob get 4.

I don't really care how unproductive Stafford was so much as he really didn't get his nose dirty at all. He played like a perimeter player; now if he had been buzzing around the net like Gerbe and only scored 1 I'd say give him another shot, but that wasn't the case.

I'd add Hecht to the list as well. Injured way too frequently, big contract, getting older. Would be a much better fit on a team a little closer to winning the big shiny trophy.

Are you kidding me? Watched every game start to finish. I cannot believe there is actually someone who thinks Stafford was even DECENT. 1 goal....1. freaking. goal. he got his show run night in and night out. that's who he is though. he is not a playoff player. He's incredibly streaky and is in no way worth what he's going to be wanting.

can't believe people think like this...

I watched the entire series. Stafford's name was hardly called. For anything. Total non-factor.

Hecht is signed at $3.525 million next year

This.

Stafford and Carter played similarly bad this series. Difference is we needed Stafford more than they needed Carter..

Oh really?

You mean the same Stafford that didn't show up in last year's playoffs and got benched and the same Stafford that chipped in 1 goal this series?

Keeping players like Stafford around ensure you early playoff exits year in and year out.

Even if Boyes, Staff remain. That's not too bad of a healthy line-up next season assuming that a top line C is brought in.

Vanek-X-Ennis
Stafford-Roy-Boyes
Gerbe-Hecht-Pominville
Kaleta-Gaustad-McCormick
X

Bringing in another big, bottom six body to play half a season if Kaleta remains injury prone as your 13th man.

Stafford comes down to if the price is right. Problem is, he will most likely get a better offer from another team who needs him more then we do, and they will overpay.

I just hope we arent the ones to overpay.

I'd trade him. I guess he technically wouldn't be "walking" he would be traded. Stafford would be traded too; he's an RFA.
