my only concern with a sweep is that the van/nash series could drag on for another week.
This. I'm secretly hoping we don't sweep. I'm not sure I trust this team with having a week off, especially considering the Nucks and Preds will be in the rhythm of playing playoff hockey while our guys are sipping Mojito's in this 80 degree weather we're having.
HOWEVER, dang would it feel great to sweep Detroit. Dang good. So many people doubted us beating them after the LA series.

The Nucks could win in 5 no doubt. Then ours ends up going 6 or maybe even 7? There's no way I don't want a sweep. If you've got em down, you take it and don't look back. Not to mention, every game is one more chance for injuries.

Uhh, I hope they tell us if they're going to do that sooner rather than later, it would mess up my Sunday a lot...
They won't know unless Sharks lose and Bruins win. I'm guessing if those two events happen on Friday, another noon start is a done deal and would be announced friday night after those games.
I, OTOH, am hoping for no game 5...

Not to mention that no matter what there may be a long layoff before conf final rounds, given that NBC isn't showing hockey next weekend (not referring to this weekend, but the next), conf finals could start late so that everyone has a long layoff...

Doubt it. Versus just gets to dictate "every other day" schedule alternating east and west. If the series go long enough, NBC will get their due.
Bring on Captain Tin Man and his motley crew of divers and whiners I say.
If LA had a little more experience the mighty San Jose Guppies would be golfing right now.
Their goaltending sucks, as they're no Chicago Blackhawks, so we'll let them believe they have the better keeper in Niemi (pulled 2 times).
Their defence is mediocre at best with guys who've never scored a goal in their playoff lives like Vlasic and Ian White. Not forgetting Dan "I score in my own net in overtime" Boyle.
SOME of their forwards like Couture, and Pavelski are a threat, while the rest are either in and out guys like Marleau or flat out clowns like Thornton and Heatley.
Healthy Hank and Johan. Motivated Datsyuk. Kronner on his game and Howard with confidence.
WINGS IN 5.
This was by far my favorite post from the Wings board.
He must not have watched how good White was in the kings series.
Well to be fair, maybe he was unaware that White had only played one playoff series prior to his comment.... the LA series this year, where he did not have a goal.
"ri·val·ry/ˈrīvəlrē/
Noun: Competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field"
When you look at the playoff history between these teams over the years, I think it's laughable that someone could start a poll in the offseason about who are biggest rivals are and vote with a straight face for the Ducks or Kings.
I know Detroit's not in our divison, but do they have to be to our biggest rival? The Pats and Colts have had a huge rivalry for the Brady/Manning years and have not been in the same division for most (if not all) of those years.
When you look back at Sharks history, it's all about the Detroit Red Wings. Our measuring stick. Our thorn in our side. The thing standing in our way of deep playoff runs (95, 07). ESPN's Pierre LeBrun said last night's game was like a SCF game. Not saying the rivalry is necessarily vice versa (but for the Wings it's getting there), but I still find it laughable that there are fellow Sharks fans out there that don't want to concede that they are our biggest rival without question.
Hate is not the same as rivalry (See definition above). You may hate the Ducks more, but the Wings have been the #1 rivals for the Sharks franchise.
Just my 2 cents I wanted to throw out there as this in my mind this series should remove any doubt as to who our biggest rivals are.

I don't like the Ducks, Kings...division rivals bla bla
I also don't like Detroit but I have tremendous respect for the franchise. The Wings don't go out and goon it up they just have very skilled players. When we lose to the Wings I just have an acceptance of knowing that you have lost to a better team.
That said, beating them last season in 5 and then jumping out to a 3-0 lead this series is a good feeling just because of the history between the teams.
In talking to my friends I think its common for Sharks fans (the knowledgeable ones anyway) to have respect for the Detroit franchise....I don't think it can be said the other way around unfortunately.
