Ummm did you miss the time the team almost moved? Bettman has a part to play with the Oilers staying in Edmonton. I don't agree with a lot of what he has done in the sunbelt, and how persistent he has been in keeping these teams there, and trying to hide the fact that most of these teams lose money. But, you gotta give credit where it's due.

More NHL teams in Canada is good for hockey. Sometimes you have to look a bit further than only short term financial values.

Canada is the number 1 hockey country in the world with the largest fanbase, players and interest.

it's the only thing that makes sense and keeps most teams in proper geographic placement with out completely destroying the east's rivalries and divisions. if you move detroit or columbus who do you move into the south east? it's impossible without destroying everything.

vancouver to the pacific makes more sense to me...

Then it gets rid of the Canadian rivalries. Despite the time zones it doesn't make sense to get rid of the rivalries. It makes more sense to keep 4 Canadian teams in the same division for one because it's less travel and they don't have to go through customs as much.

Far as I am concerned Gary Bettman's expertise is on law, and not on finances. Also his view on Canada in terms of job growth and the financial climate is really horrible. I can say personally being an American born and raised I wouldn't put a team in any American city right now. I feel the NHL could have a couple more teams relocated to Canada

Some fuel to the fire from Greg Brady at the Fan 590.

If Atlanta moves to Winnipeg, where do the Coyotes go when it becomes apparent that they can no long be viable in the desert?

Seems like Twitter isn't working. Here's the tweet:

"Spoke to an Atlanta Thrashers player via text message. He's been told to expect a major announcement regarding franchise relocation..."

Something's going down in about 10 minutes.

Probably not a relocation announcement, more like a "state of the union" thing.

Not really.

New article from TheFourthPeriod says there's real urgency to find new partners or new ownership in Atlanta, and Greg Brady from the Fan590 said that a Thrashers player sent him a text saying to expect an announcement about relocation.

Nothing official right now, and it doesn't look like there will be anything today.

Dreger has twittered that there is no possibility of an announcement of relocation of the thrashers to Winnipeg....this week.

Vancouver is in the Pacific Time Zone and Colorado is in the Mountain Time Zone. Vancouver to the Pacific makes more sense than Colorado.

They won't move a Canadian team out of the North West.

It will be Colorado.

It isn't all about time zones though. Denver is closer to the cities in the Pacific Division than Vancouver, and Vancouver is close to Edmonton and Calgary. The league won't want to break up the Canadian rivalries either, so it's probably safe to say that Colorado leaves the division before Vancouver does.

Except Vancouver is as Northwest as Northwest gets. Truthfully I think they'd be fine in either the NW or the Pacific (although it would be a travesty to lose several all-Canadian matchups with Edmonton and Calgary).

IF Atlanta moved to Winnipeg, one rumor is that Detroit has long been promised a spot in the Eastern Conference. So my own thought would be;

To the NW - ATL/WPG
To the Eastern Conference - DET
To the Central Division - COL

What Eastern Conference team would move to the Southeast Division?

Detroit?

I would speculate there'd be a bit of juggling, as--IMO--Detroit would be best suited to the Northeast Division (being right across the river from Toronto, and all). But that would start one heck of a game of musical chairs.

Dallas to the Central would work along with Colorado to the Pacific. My own thought is that the NHL may want to cut down on the juggling of divisions as much as possible, but that would be a distinct possibility as well.

I honestly think my re-alignment is the smartest way to go about it. Moving Detroit or Columbus would mess up the whole eastern conference.

If you move Detroit or Columbus at all, it ****s every single thing in the eastern conference you don't touch the divisions at all except replacing one team.

Why does it have to be Winnipeg and not Saskatoon? It makes much more sense to place a team in Saskatchewan. This way, the flights would even be closer.

That would be the s***. Most Minnesota fans would be thrilled with that. Unfortunately I don't see it happening.

Why not cut down to 2 divisions per conference like it used to be instead of 3 divisions per conference. Wouldn't that make a lot more sense.
