Awesome. Regardless of how good a coach he might be (I'm guessing he has what it takes) it'll be great to see him back with the org.

I guess Tampa wasn't hiring.

Anything you ever wanted to know about Ted can be summed up by his headline about this on his blog.

Also, even more implications about the Caps letting go of the Soviet coach for Varly and hiring zie German for Grubauer?

It does have all the earmarks of a cheap publicity gimmick. Very Leonsis-like. Could work out if Prior is really getting back into this full time. But if he's just going to be a figure head and we essentially have Olie as a rookie goaltender coach? That doesn't warm the cockles of my heart.

Great news. Olie in the room will be excellent for the team and Prior's a good coach and fantastic evaluator.

The obvious assumption is that Prior will groom Kolzig to be the full-time coach in the near future. I don't see a problem with it, at all.

So, Prior was let go because he didn't get along with Varly. Meaningful or not?

As for the move, I love seeing Olie back. His fire can only help this team.

Prior stepped down because he didn't want to keep up with all the travel, I thought. He still played a role in the org doing scouting. Although I don't doubt coaching philosophy played a part as well, at least in terms of having him decide whether it was worth it for him.

That said I don't know if it means all that much about Varly right now. If Prior wasn't just feeding a line about wanting to take more family time, well having an assistant that will probably play a big hands on role doesn't discredit that at all. Prior should get plenty more free time during the season there if Olie is going to step into a serious role.

Not saying I'd be surprised by anything though. Should be an interesting storyline to follow.

I seem to remember a newspaper quote recently about Varly and Prior not getting along and that's part of the reason Irbe was brought in.

I'm sure someone can verify. I'll do a little digging....my wife's friend is friends with Varly's GF. I'll pass along anything I hear.

Huh? He stepped down because he wanted to spend more time with his family, or so I thought.

Hmm...isn't personal/family reasons what Irbe gave us? Sounds like a Caps management spin to me!

It is, but they were more specific in saying it was related to being away from home too much IINM.

It's never as simple as they say, but it sounded a lot less like BS that time than it did/does with Irbe.

Katie's story made it sound like Olie will mostly be working with the kids in Hershey/SC.

Starting at the bottom making his way up, makes sense. Especially if Holtby is in Hershey next year. This makes me think me we are keeping Varly since Holtby seems like a junior Kolzig. The grubauer.de angle is interesting and may be in play; It may be random maybe not, but even us dumbfacks out of the game could see how a guy like Olaf could help out braden.

Or it just be Ted LLC felt bad about letting him go, and wanted him back in some capacity. A great PR move. Kill three birds with one stone, Holt Grub and PR.

Will we got a DVD of his best saves in the mail monthly now?
