Well the solution is quite simple.
1. Learn all the possible types of defence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%E2%80...se_and_offense, left wing lock etc.

2. Learn the offence that will penetrate that defence.

3. Learn to recognise what system is in use and what strategy is needed to play against it.

4. Alternatively take the lead and make the other team play your game.

PS Ensure you have the necessary players able and trained to implement each strategy.

Darn all these formal systems. I like run and gun. Much more exciting.

Oh i dunno them all but with 45000 posts to ponder, its not worth the brain power. I will assume your answer to the current question is Yes.

Here is another one, do you want a new coach in place to start the season? Yes or no.

Excellent answer. Thanks for playing along.

Do you think fighting should be banned in its entirety, immediately?

Chara will not be a #1D on a Cup winner.

This is a false choice. Fighting will never be banned in any sport. Fighting happens in baseball and basketball and racing. As to in hockey, the fights that need to happen will always happen. Do I think fighting should be more expensive to eliminate tactical fighting? Yes. I do.

I suspect we are going to find out some more bad things about fighting in this Boogaard tragedy. I think the obvious increase in concussion issues league wide is going to put pressure on fighting from that angle as well.

So, yea. I think the penalty for fighting needs to go up.

Damn i hadnt heard about Boogaard. Interesting timing with my question to you heh.

Humans are bigger than ever, and athletes are paying for it. Its not just the food we eat, its what is put in the food. My meat and potato grandparents had largely the same diet as me, but were 5'5" stretched out. They didnt eat any f'in diet food. And lived into their 90's and were not fat. The food we eat now is littered with growth hormones etc to pad profits, bottom line. The theme of america.

So these oversized beasts are graduating into sports, and the main thing the league does is make pads bigger. Obviously that is not working, it makes the players even bigger and makes matters worse. And cut back on physical contact, so when it does happen, its random and flat out brutal (see Steckel). Players have really ballooned in just the short existence of the Washington Capitals.

Imagine sports 100 years from now, at these growth rates, players heads will be over the glass with our same tiny goal box, the goalie pillows growing too. All games will end in a 0 0 tie as every players 15 foot stick breaks on every shot attempt.

Try and find a chart of human height over time. I failed. Its bizzare, I am certain.

the average human height has increased over time, but the primary factor for this is emerging (second and third world) populations having access to better nutrition and health care. the average male height of a first-world country like canada has been just about fixed at about 5'9" for as long as the inch and meter have been standardized.

if you don't want to take that on faith, you can look up the average height of north (5'4") vs. south (5'7") korean males. it's not genetics or breeding; it's nutrition.

what was the meaning of this maundering diatribe anyways?

The Sharks just can't keep up. They may be the bigger team but that doesn't mean much.

Vancouver's overall team speed and rate of execution is tremendous.

Did you hear Gillis's interview about the expectation that Vancouver's defence produce 200 points in the regular season? I found it interesting that they set targets like that. guess if you become accustomed to producing at that rate it carries over into the post season.

On talk radio this morning a subject discussed was how teams in the playoffs really need scoring from their 2nd and 3rd lines. Often this is necessary because the top line gets all the attention and has a harder time scoring.

Vancouver's goal scorers today Sedin,D 2, Bieksa, Torres, Higgins, Raymond and Rome all got one.

I vividly remember VAN fans proposing Steckel + Gustafsson + 3rd for Bieksa, while we we're balking at a Chimera for Bieksa swap.

I love how that blowhard Roenick is ranting after the 2nd period on how that Marleau fight "may be the single thing that changes this series"....well he was right...it ignited the Canucks.

What a finish and a series of stupid plays by Eager.
