Tony Voce

I know there was a thread on him a while back so here is the latest.

The Flyers and Voce have agreed on a 1 year 100,000 contract with a 60,000 signing bonus. All that is left is Clarke needs to approve it and sign it tomorrow (Friday.)

Not a shock, to end up being a regular on the Phantoms is the best case scenario, but I imagine he will play a few games for the Titans next season.

Pretty good news to hear that a top NCAA scorer is signing (or close to it) with us. I like the idea of signing a few developed, mature players out of the college ranks every season. At worst, these guys can replace the aging plumbers currently filling out our AHL roster.

Good to see the Flyers picking him up (if indeed its official). A great player but small in stature (only about 5'8").

How can it only be 100,000? I'm sure the league minimum salary is above that. And 100,000 base and 60,000 bonus is a bit high for an AHL contract.

To what aging plumbers are you referring? I don't see any on the current roster, which is those under contract now, with the possible exeption of Boyd Kane, who I say is signed-others have him unsigned but I say otherwise. Leaving off Kane the rest possibilities are: (Jeff Carter, Richards, Ruzicka pending determination of team plans-see Rick Curran comments) Umberger, B. Robinson, Eager, Deschenes, (Stafford and Abel(if signed) who are on AHL contracts and should not really count, I say), Grant(04 draftee), R. Jones, Seidenberg, Ruggeri, F. Meyer, Skolney, S.Wood, Hope, Laux (AHL) and Niitimaki ( whoever is back-up would be veteran-but I don't think goaltenders are plumbers).. Oh yeah, maybe Mathieu Brunelle- but I say he goes back to Trenton. That's all I have as signed. Leave out Kane, I don't see anybody over 25. HOw many of these have you decreed to be on the vast raft of aging plumbers. Oh yeah, as to the original post, the numbers don't compute, and they already got some left wings, where does he play, and he's a smaller type. I will consider this a crock until it is proven otherwise.

Phantoms roster

this is not about Voce but I did not want to start a new thread, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Flyers may sign Eric Meloche. Not exactly big news but since this thread was discussing the Phantoms roster it kind of fit.

Leading scorer for Boston College. He's a native of Philadelphia.

I was referring more to filling the holes of guys like Berube, Son-in-Law White, Slaney, etc who were on the team this past year. Should have clarified though as we do have a fairly young AHL team for the upcoming season.

he only makes 10% of that in the AHL as he was signed by the Flyers and not the Phantoms

Well he wasn't signed yet and 100,000 is below the NHL minimum.

I talked to his dad yesterday, he runs a local roller hockey rink, and he said that the signing bonus was 100,000, not the contract. So if the bonus is 100,000 then what is the salary?

Makes sense. NHL contract is 600,000 with 60,000 in the AHL.

It's Official: Flyers sign Tony Voce

http://www.philadelphiaflyers.com/pr...chive/1669.asp

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 5’8”, 185-pound center Tony Voce (vOHs) according to General Manager Bob Clarke. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Voce, 23, is the first native of Philadelphia, PA to be signed by the Flyers. While playing four seasons with Boston College (2000 through 2004) he recorded 90 goals, 77 assists for 167 career points and 209 penalty minutes in 159 games played.

During the 2003-04 season, Voce led his team in goals (29), points (47) and power play goals (12). He was tied for first on the team in short handed goals (3) and in plus/minus with a +20. In addition, he recorded three hat tricks last season, to total five for his career.

Last season, Voce was second in the nation in goals in the NCAA, was the recipient of the Norman F. Bailey Award as team MVP for the second time (also won in his sophomore year), and was named to the All-Hockey East First Team and was an AHCA First Team All-American. He was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which has been presented to the top collegiate hockey player since 1981.

UFA Prospect!!!

Flyers gone crazy with signing UFA prospects... Is it because Flyers didn't have 1st and 2nd round draft pick and Clarke trying to replace it with UFA market... Where do you Tony Voce in next two years?
