Flyers sign Voce

TSN.ca Staff

7/13/2004

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday that they have signed centre Tony Voce according to General Manager Bob Clarke. As per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Voce, 23, is the first native of Philadelphia, PA to be signed by the Flyers. While playing four seasons with Boston College (2000 through 2004), he recorded 90 goals, 77 assists for 167 career points and 209 penalty minutes in 159 games played.

During the 2003-04 season, Voce led his team in goals (29), points (47) and power play goals (12). He was tied for first on the team in short handed goals (3) and in plus/minus with a +20. In addition, he recorded three hat tricks last season, to total five for his career.

Last season, Voce was second in the nation in goals in the NCAA, was the recipient of the Norman F. Bailey Award as team MVP for the second time (also won in his sophomore year), and was named to the All-Hockey East First Team and was an AHCA First Team All-American. He was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which has been presented to the top collegiate hockey player since 1981.

Wow impressive, first Brent Robinson, now Voce. The flyers picked up 2 solid guys from the NCAA for next to nothing, both led their teams in scoring and should help the phantoms out next season.

I wouldn't call a couple million nothing, but I guess Ed Synder and Comast can.
