Lundqvist

What would Flyer fans offer to the Rangers for Lundqvist, to ease the Flyers goaltending woes? Surely Hank is good enough to get the Flyers far into the playoffs with all the firepower they have, but what would you give up?

I would say Giroux and Carter for Lundqvist and Dubinsky or something along those lines.

I'd love Lundqvist, but even IF the rangers were willing to move him to us, we'd never be able to afford his salary or the assets required to make the move without blowing up a good portion of the team.

Roberto Luongo has done incomprehensible damage to the viability of blockbuster goalie trades; the dynamic of the post-lockout NHL and names like Niemi and Leighton appearing in the finals have made the concept of big goalie trades radioactive.

...but, Embryo, I would shove shards of glass down my eyelids if it meant having Lundqvist in orange.

Jeff Carter, Ben Holmstrom (or Erik Gustaffson if you prefer D), and a third round pick.
Maybe replace the prospect and the pick with Matt Carle if we get some body in return.

If the Rangers were going to trade Lundqvist (they aren't), it surely wouldn't be to a division rival.

I'd trade Timonen and a prospect for him, but that's it. The fact that we have been doing better than the Rangers recently shows that an elite team of skaters is more important than an elite goalie. We just proved that again by beating the Sabres.

You mean that same Timonen who is leading the league in +/- in the playoffs? And the same Timonen who has been instrumental in the Flyers' success and who you can't see in pictures of pretty much every opposition goal?

Why on earth would you want to get rid of the Flyers' best defenseman?

1. Pronger is the Flyers best defenseman
2. Is Mez a top 5 dman in the league because he was top 5 in +/- during the season?
3. Timonen is 36.
4. Timonen's cap hit is $6.3M which is comparable to Lundqvist's.
5. I think he's a very good dman, but it's wishful thinking saying that he isn't at fault for some bad goals. He let a man get by him for a goal or two just yesterday.

I'll end with this. Which would you rather have next year?

Option A:

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Coburn
Mezsaros-Gustafsson

Boucher/Bobrovsky

Option B:

Pronger-Carle
Mezsaros-Coburn
Gustafsson-Veteran FA/Marshall

Lundqvist

I want a goalie more than anything, but I can think of other options for defensemen I'd rather see go. And I have no faith that Holmgren will do anything sane, so the conversation is moot.

That would be your liver. Beef's organs learned to multi-task long ago, most likely in response to his liver's cries for assistance.

I think Lundqvist is the best goalie in the league by a pretty large margin. That being said, I don't think the Flyers could afford him (salary-wise and trade piece-wise).

I love Lundqvist, but his cap hit costs the Flyers a lot.

Exactly. IF the Rangers even wanted to move Lundy, it would be to a team out west. I really hate some of these hypothetical trade scenarios...especially some that are as ridiculous this as this. The Rangers would NEVER trade him the Flyers.
