DC's sports radio promised that they would be discussing the Vokoun signing. I drove faster to avoid having to listen to it.

Just promise us you will pull over and turn off the ignition if the segment does come on. No sense wasting multiple innocent lives veering into oncoming traffic.

And while we fling our darts at Paul Holmgren, I would think that Steve Yzerman should be kicking his desk at missing out on the Vokoun bargain. He did his best Holmgren impersonation by resigning Grandpa Roloson for $3 mil a day before the start to FA. Then he signed Mathieu Garon for 2 years @ $1.3 mil per. Oops!

It's odd to me that Vokoun went for peanuts. George McPhee looks like the genius of the off-season.

Which is odd, because "genius" isn't the word I'd use for McPhee.

I don't get the Roloson signing. I struggle to believe he has an entire season + playoffs left in him.

Roloson was a great mid-season addition, but it's almost – almost – identical to Leighton getting reupped after his playoff success. Yes, Roloson is hands-down both a much better goaltender and a proven commodity; however, it was no mystery that Yzerman had a crack at one of Bryzgalov or Vokoun to really shore up goaltending on a team that made it to the Conference finals. Yzerman overpaid in jumping the gun, and had he been patient, he could potentially have signed a better, younger goalie for less money.

Darroll Powe signed a 3-year deal with the Wild. Maybe that's why the Flyers traded him.

Zenon Konopka signed with Ottawa and Scott Nichol signed with St. Louis.

Great. No more "we need toughness - sign Konopka" nonsense.

They're both damn dirty Penguins to me, but yeah I'd have no beef if Homer somehow managed to pry Letang away from them and sign him to that kind of contract.

Kaberle to the Canes

per Sportsnet.ca

Tomas Kaberle is heading south.

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Kaberle to a three-year $12.75M contract.

I was looking at who the Panthers have on their team for next season, and they actually have a decent team. Their goalies situation is likely mediocre though with Theodore and Clemmensen.

Jason Arnott & Jamie Langenbrunner both signed with the Blues on one year deals.

Antti Miettinen inked in the KHL.

I love Powe but Talbot will almost certainly give you 30 points and is better than Powe in every aspect of the game other than hitting and skating in a straight line.

Talbot = top 9
Powe = fourth liner

So, no Arnott for us then... I looked around on capgeek a little bit, and currently there are two teams that need to shed salary: Capitals and Sabres. It's not likely to happen at all, but if we could trick Buffalo into sending Gaustad our way, that would be great.

Maxime Talbot has never reached 30 points. I still take him over Powe, but I don't think you can expect more than 20 from him at this stage.

Dang. There goes some options.

I know it's just probably the heat/humidity making me say this... but a line of Simmonds-Schenn-Zherdev could be fun to watch... but we'd definitely be throwing the idea of defense out the window with pretty much the top 3 lines.

There is ZERO chance zherdev comes back. He's bad publicity with the wife beating thing (but thats never stopped the flyers before), but mostly lavy hates him and wont play him.
