As a die-hard Blues fan, my opinion of the Hawks and the fans of Chicago have done a 180. I took my 12 year old son to the UC on April 6th for the Blues-Hawks tilt and we had a blast. Caught some good natured ribbing, but everyone treated us well. The UC blows the ScottTrade Center away in regards to atmosphere. Then coming back from 0-3 to make it 3-3 against the Canucks was awesome. I was actually rooting for the Hawks. It is just a shame that a brain fart by Campoli ended the game. I thought that as Halak developed, the Blues would have the best goaltender in the division for years to come. Now I am afraid that Crawford will be the one who carries the Central. Can't wait for October to come and we can re-new the rivalry that carried me through the 80's and most of the 90's.
thanks for the words, even though Canucks fans would differ
Disagree. I'm a Canucks fan and I'm first to say the respect level amongst the non 13 year old fanboy community in Van is huge - the UC is absolutely electrifying and the Hawks are one of the hardest working teams in the league. Toews is a fantastic captain and leads with his heart.
You can dislike a team competitively and still respect them, you know.
When we went to the game, I was telling my friends that are Hawks fans that in this day and age, blind hatred of a team is tough since we have so many media outlets that let you get to know players form other teams. When I was young, I hated a player just because they wore the Hawk sweater. Savard, Secord, Larmer, Wilson, etc. all drew my ire. Today, the commercials, interviews, and video you see on TV and the internet allow fans to see the other side of players. As I look at the Hawks roster, I would take just about all of them on the Blues. I would never have said that back in the 80's and early 90's. Of course, growing older and becoming a little more mature helps in this process. I am really looking forward to another trip to the UC next year.
