Hello CBJ board. Sabres fan here (in peace of course) trying to learn more about a UFA dman that I don't know much about. Figured you guys would be the best to ask. Info on his effectiveness, style, likelyhood of staying/leaving CBJ, probable cap hit next year, etc would be appreciated.

Thanks!

He desperately wants to stay with the Jackets but he also wants a 3-4 year contract at $3+ million per year. Those two different wants are probably not compatible. He is a solid but not spectacular defensive defenseman. He had a knee injury last year, came back too quickly and has never seemed to have the same speed since then.

Solid, unspectacular 3-4 defenseman. He's a little slow, stay-at-home type who seems to play smaller than his frame would suggest. Known to throw an occasional hip check. He has stated that he wants to stay with Columbus but I'm not sure the GM wants to re-sign him. My guess is he gets somewhere around 2-2.5 million a year if he stays, on the open market he might get 3 million depending on the market.

Stay at home dman. Poor man's Hamhuis imo. Was very good under Hitch, but has been closer to average the last 2 seasons.

I think Howson will try to resign him but the amount might not match what Hejda is after.

He's got 1, maybe 2 years left as an NHL defensemen. He's clearly lost a step.

Aging hasn't been kind to him.
