You see that big dirt lot across from the track. That is the overflow parking lot and it was FULL yesterday. Turned out to be a nightmare of a time....who charges 40 bucks for parking?? Ended up not going after all...don't have almost a hundred bucks to drop before I even get in the door.

Is that the daily rate or a higher fee because it was the opening date?

$40 for parking?

I guess I'm lucky if I want to go to Parx.

The Saratoga meet begins tomorrow.

I say it every year. A wonderful place to vacation.
I'll get back someday, if this economy ever improves.

1st is a non winners of 2 allowance with a $90,000 purse!!!!!
3rd is a maiden special for babies with a $80,000 purse.
Casino Royale.

Gr 1 Test for 3yr fillies at 7F used to be the opening day feature. Always a great betting race. They've buried it somewhere in the meet.

Wow, that is an awesome shot.

I will get out there one of these days.

I have off this coming week - if the weather is ****** down here and there's no fishin, I may make a ride up to the Spa. Didn't get to go at all last year, can't have that two years in a row now. Would be a nice pregame for the Haskell that's for sure

No one seems to know for sure, but it sounds like Union Rags is going to be retired. If Belmont* is the Graveyard of Favorites, the Belmont Stakes is the Graveyard of Careers.

*Edit: or NYRA

Disappointing, obviously.
Don't know the extent of his injury, but I just hate how the game has changed through the years. Too few 3yr old stars ever see the starter at 4.

My prior comment about moving the Test Stakes.
They've buried it as part of the Travers card.

I must be getting old.
I do not at all like the change.
The Test stakes commanded much attention when isolated as the opening day stakes.
It'll hardly get noticed on Travers day.

The lot we park at is usually 8 when the main lot is 10 on a "normal" day. Our lot was 40 and the one across the street was actually charging 50. We like the side lot because it is alot easier to get in and out of. We learned our lesson when we parked in the big lot when we went to see Zenyatta race...took us three hours to get out.

There race doesn't fit in with the Breeders' Cup lineup would be the biggest reason.

I seem to remember it being earlier in the meet recently though.

Oddly, Johnny V is the only other jockey to win 6 at the Spa and he returns from injury this week.

Del Mar: Bing Crosby to match Amazombie vs. The Factor

DEL MAR, Calif. – There will a good old-fashioned shootout at Del Mar on Sunday afternoon, when the speedy The Factor takes on defending sprint champion Amazombie in the Grade 1, $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes at six furlongs.

Amazombie finished third in last year’s Crosby, but used that as a springboard to an Eclipse Award. He subsequently won the Ancient Title at Santa Anita, then the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. His trainer and co-owner, Bill Spawr, has a similar itinerary set for this year, with the added bonus that this year’s Breeders’ Cup will be run at Santa Anita, giving Amazombie the home-field advantage.

Gemologist confirmed for Sunday's Haskell:

http://www.monmouthpark.com/barn_notes.aspx?id=6387

Joins Dullahan, Paytner, Stealcase, Nonois and Handsome Mike

For some reason My Adonis is not showing on the official page but he's expected, Hansen is a no show apparently, opting for the West Virgina Derby

Baffert has tightened the screws again on Paynter, but Gemologist is working brilliantly. Hard to choose one over the other.

In the Jim Dandy, Alpha broke his maiden over the track, and is tearing it up in the AM.
Teeth Of The Dog and Fast Falcon haven't shown their best yet.
My Adonis is a live longshot with the switch to Castellano.
Very good betting race.

It could be a Pletcher vs. Baffert showdown at the Haskell.

Speaking of that race and Baffert, Coil returned to racing this week, at Del Mar, and won after a nine month layoff going off at 4:5. Comfortable ride by the jock.

Alpha had it all his own way today, wiring the Jim Dandy field on a sloppy track.
Going 49.30 sealed the deal.
Neck 'n Neck ran very well losing much ground.

Hard to gauge this race, or any sloppy track race.

Prediction:
Gemologist will be retired with some ligament/foot/ankle injury sustained in the race.

Strong effort from Paynter.

Paytner owned that race, was very dissappointed seeing as I backed Gemologist and Dullahan, and had just a BRUTAL day all around - my pick 5 got blown up by a price in the first leg - first price of the day after nothing but chalk....

All day I didn't cash for ****, hit one exacta/trifecta but the chalk came in on top so barely got my money back, that was the ONE ticket I cashed all day until the nightcap....

Had the excata, 10 times - 658 bucks - erased my losses and doubled my initial bankroll, funny thing is I forgot they announced the 1 dollar payouts now, so I said, "hey not bad, just made all my money back with a few bucks to spare!!", then I get to the teller and saw the payout, biggest **** eating grin I've worn in a while
