Flyers cap casualties

If the Flyers decide to bring back the same team, they'll have to trade one of the below to be cap compliant. If they decide to sign a good goalie like Vokoun or Bryz (which they should), they would probably have to move 2. What will these guys be worth?

Coburn

Carter

Carle

Versteeg

You should add Versteeg to that list of possible movers. Might as well throw Leino on it too.

Yeah I'd think Versteeg and Leino are more likely to move than Carter.

If I was the Avs GM, I would trade one of our young, cheap, NHL ready stud defensive prospects and/or picks and/or other prospects for Coburn. Any interest in Elliot or Barrie? The 11th? Hishon?

My thoughts:

Coburn - late 1st round pick + prospect

Carter - could get pick 3 in draft from Florida but doesn't need to be traded, if Versteeg and a dman is traded.

Carle - would be surprised if he is traded. He's a better player than Meszaros. Similar value to Coburn.

Versteeg - late 1st round/high 2nd round pick + prospect

Versteeg + dman package: Given it is a weak draft, Philly may be able to get a top 15 pick, possibly just after the big 8.

No, he isn't.

When you add in the cap hits of Leighton, Shelley, Walker and Laperreire they'll have to carry during the offseason, they won't have the flexibility to pull in true market value returns.

As an Isles fan Coburn interests me the most, what would Flyer fans expect in return?

I'd definitely offer Anaheim's 1st + a mid pick/prospect to get a package of Versteeg/Coburn.

Would Coburn be able to fit well with Fowler as a pair?

Coburn

Carter
Carle

Versteeg
Carter will NOT be a cap casualty. He was just signed to a new 11-year contract.

With the emergence of Meszaros, Carle is most likely the odd man out out of Carle and Coburn. Mesz plays a similar style to Carle but not very much like what Coburn brings to the table. For that reason, I think we keep Coburn and deal Carle if we need. Also, both Carle and Coburn need new contracts after next season and with JVR likely getting a nice raise at that time too, it's unlikely we could keep both anyways.

As far as forwards go, I think it's down to Hartnell and Versteeg as to which could be gone if we have to shed salary.

At any rate, I think that all 4 of the "potential" cap casualties of the Flyers will return at least a mid 2nd rnd pick.

How about Jack Hillen and NYI 3rd for Coburn. Hillen is a RFA coming off a cheap contract, I doubt he'd cost any more than 800,000. Philly could also use draft picks since their prospect pool is atrocious. Sound fair? Btw- We could flip our 3rd for colorado's (something to do with the wisniewski deal) so philly would actually be moving up to 63 vs. 65.

First and foremost, remove Carter from the list. The leading scorer on a top team in the league who just signed an 11 year contract is not a cap casualty . Second, Coburn is a very capable and unique defenseman with his size and speed. He's not going anywhere. Carle, Versteeg, and Leino are the likely candidates unless somebody waives a NTC somewhere. Also, we're not going to take **** for return unless, of course, Homer decides to put our ***** over the cap and handcuff us into a butt****ing .

Thing is, Flyers can let million dollar players rot in the AHL.

Only dman likely to be dealt is Carle. Coburn and Meszaros will not.

All I do now is laugh at the people who still think Carter is available, he was never available, I just don't understand them...

Taylor Pyatt and Philly's 2nd back to them for Hartnell. Saves them over three million bucks off the cap. They move a big winger thats good for 25-25-50 for a big wingers that's good for 15-15-30. They get their 2nd back from the Carcillo trade.

Honestly, people just ignore that fact that he just signed for 11 years at an awesome cap hit. He's not going anywhere. Idon't know how many threads need to be made for people to grasp this concept.

Nah. Hartnell, Briere, Leino line is very important. Pyatt won't excite us and we hate 2nd. Wow us with a deal; this isn't it.

Would Philly consider trading Hartnell straight up for Mikael Samuelsson? Samuelsson's contract ends next season and Philly saves 1.6 million in cap hit.

Hartnell is a more reliable player, but there is some solid cap relief in it for Philly, so it may be worth considering.

I disagree. Briere and Leino have shown they can play just as well with other players. Hartnell just hasn't been living up to last year's playoff success.

Hartnell is the grinder in the corner for Leino and Briere to work their magic. He's going to look average compared to those two but his work on the ice is to get them the puck and space to work with.

He's worth a solid prospect.
