Most of these trades are unrealistic, the Flyers won't be in a position to demand anything. They must trade to get under the cap, therefore they have no bargaining power. A bidding war between several teams trying to low-ball the Flyers will develop, but I very much doubt that the final accepted offer approaches anything close to what a fair return would be under normal circumstances.

I want the Oilers to move Hemsky at the draft and replace him with Leino.

BTW Carle is overrated because he played on a pairing with Pronger. Without Pronger he's had some horrific turnovers and is worthless on the power play. He's been by far the Flyers worst defenseman in the playoffs.

Can we wait until the end of the playoffs to start threads like this.
Ok with it? Probably not. But that's what his value is when it's not the trade deadline. If the Flyers want to move him for the cap space, they'll have to take what they can get, not what they want.

I would happily take Versteeg despite his recent struggles. Habs could use some depth on the bottom pairing. No use for him on Vancouver though.

I would love Coburn on the Avs. How about the 11th overall straight up?

Do u guys want a defensive prospect who's almost ready? The Avs have a couple real good ones in Stefan Elliott and Tyson Barrie. Maybe one of them and a late pick?

Having Coburn and EJ on the same pairing logging 25 minutes a night would be sick. They'd be the twin towers back there.

So pardon me for wondering then, but why is there a Flyers cap casualties thread if they can so easily retain everyone?

There is a Flyers cap casualties thread because they're going to be downgrading their team this offseason to get under the cap. If they add Bryzgalov or Vokoun, you're talking about a D going, Leino or Versteeg going and a depth player like Nodl going. Numbers don't lie and it's always worse than it seeems.

Side note: What ever happened to Homer and Leino's handshake agreement on a contract extension? We don't hear about that one anymore.

Unless you actually read the original post and he says adding a REAL goalie. So not signing leino leaves you the goalie cap space but the team is still very close to the cap, have to trade if they wanna do any tinkering

And that's why he's Flyers Guru. Anybody could have looked at capgeek at any point throughout the year to see what was coming. Since the preseason, I've been saying that this is similar to the Hawks situation, albeit not as severe. Be VERY thankful Homer didn't throw gasoline on the fire with the Leighton move. Quite frankly, if it had been the Blackhawks, I would have been shocked beyond belief if they got away with something like that. Bottom line, one of Carle or Coburn is gone and one of Versteeg or Leino is gone. I'm assuming the Flyers are trading for or signing an estabilished goalie and plan to use Bob as the backup. Bob is not cheap for a backup. Bryz will probably be too much money to be realistic for the Flyers. Their best bet is to get Vokoun on a decent deal, hopefully like 4.5M and go for it with what they've got. I'm a huge fan of Vokoun and I'd love to see what he can do with a team like the Flyers. He usually only plays around 50-55 games a year, so Bob would get plenty of time to get action and get better. Nobody is trying to troll you guys. It just is what it is. They Flyers need to do a little restructuring, and honestly, the best approach is to just embrace it because the current (and same as long as I've been a hockey fan) strategy isn't working for PHILLY. Just because other teams can get by with rookies or slightly above average goalies and load up the rest of the roster doesn't make it an automatic to work for Philly or any other team in the league.

At the same time, the Flyers can afford to bury 5 of those contracts in the AHL.

Yes, and they certainly will in some of those cases, at least you would expect Homer to. Guys like Nodl, if they are too be back, mitigate a little of that. You add in someone like Vokoun, and to me, if you're committed to Bob as his backup, you have to move some guys out. If the Flyers want to keep everybody, they should have Bob as No.1 in another league, Leighton in the AHL or wherever and get a cheap backup. Not sure what Joakim Ericsson is getting paid, but if not him, then Theodore or something.

From an Oiler standpoint Coburn would be a nice addition.

We could offer La's first round pick(19) and and our 2nd(31) for him.

This is a pretty good offer because there is no salary coming back for the Flyes and they fill in some picks that they have traded over the last 2 years.

And another thing, JVR's contract has big bonuses, and next year being the last of the current CBA, they have to carry that. Why do you think the Hawks were so thin this year? Carrying bonuses.

The bolded will be either on LTIR or in the minors, so you can subtract them. I think they may still count against the cap in the offseason though?

You can go 10% over the cap in the offseason.

Notable Flyers free agents:

2011 UFA’s:

Nick Boynton
Matt Clackson
Ville Leino
Sean O’Donnell
Michael Ryan
Nikolay Zherdev

2011 RFA’s:

Rob Bordson
Daniel Carcillo
Jon Kalinski
Garrett Klotz
Stefan Legein
Andreas Nodl
Darroll Powe
Tom Sestito
Brian Stewart
Danny Syvret

Flyers also have 39 of 50 contracts committed towards next season.

Yepp. I was gonna say, he's adding players that havent even made the team yet/ didnt even play on the Flyers this year.

And Flyersguru what ever happened to your "Sesitio is 100% going to make the team next year. My sources confirm it. Look for him on the team."

That "source" seemed to die out for ya.

Also to the OP, the guy said we had to get under the cap next season. That in truth is wrong. I am not stating that we wont trade everyone when we are trying to go and get a 5 mil goalie. Obviously we would need to trade people if we did that.
