It's basically an elimination game. I wouldn't be suprised if he played tomorrow regardless of his lack of ice time. Pronger is playing tomorrow.

$20 says he does not, but Pronger will be there.

It would be relatively amazing if he was recovered enough to play tomorrow. They used "severe" to describe it, and even mild sprains take a couple of weeks to get back from generally.

Agreed. You never know in the playoffs though. Lappy anyone? Of course, Carter has about 1/1,000,000th of the fortitude of Lappy so I digress... (Carter bashing ensues)

Can we please not rush back a player with an 11 year contract?

Yeah, Carter really showed a lack of fortitude and willingness to play through pain last year... year before that, he was playing with a F'd shoulder.

This. As much as I complain about his disappearing act in the playoffs, he has a very team friendly contract and will get his head straight in april/may one of these years.

I was being sarcastic, take it easy. I don't think any of the players on the team have anywhere close to the fortitude of Lappy so it's not necessarily a shot at him. It's more of a compliment to Lappy.

Each and every thread on this board has at least one conversation going on about Carter. And Jester is the #1 Carter defender. And Jester, that isn't an insult.

I love how some people diss Carter's courage and pain tolerance. When Pronger broke his foot earlier he expressed amazement that Carter could play with pins and plates surgically implanted in both feet.

The real issue is the risk of reinjury from strained MCL's is very high. You can wear a brace to protect you from further hyperextensions, but if you tear it completely, it's 6 months off after surgery.

When I sprained my MCL (1st degree sprain), the doctor equated it to breaking guitar strings. If you just break a string or two, it's a 1st or 2nd degree sprain. If 3-4 of the strings break, it's a serious tear. If all the strings break, it's a torn ligament and needs surgery.

Carter will play when it's stable enough to play with a brace. He can handle the pain, but both him and the team need to manage the risk of total tear and missing next year too.

Sorry, I'd love to help more, but I've been busy, and I'm not seeing a lot of the haters' posts for some reason.

thanks, Jester!

He should only come back if he will be a relevant, contributing member to the team. If he's still so hurt that it will greatly hurt his play, keep him off.

Once again, not a stab at Carter so all you defenders can put your knives away.

If he can do 10 to 15 minutes of really hard skating and taking shots, we might see him for Game 3. Don't take my word for it though, just thoughts.

Apparently, Carter isn't up to speed just yet. In practice, he was only missing the net low and wide.
