Well I won't cry that we didn't get the sweep. We've played good this series and have 3 more games to pull out a win.

Who has the higher average even with those two busts last week?

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but it appears that Cowen is headed to Bingo to help out on D.

What's the point in showing up all season if you don't show up to support your team in the playoffs.

Playoffs 2011

Portland 5 games, total of 16,809 fans, average of 3,362

Binghamton 6 games, total of18,771 fans, average of 3,129

Regular Season 2010-2011

Portland 40 games, total of 186,192 fans, average of 4,655

Binghamton 40 games, total of 146,097 fans, average of 3,652

Cumberland County Civic Center holds 6,733
Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena holds 4,710

Portland Regular Season = 69.13% capacity
Binghamton Regular Season = 77.53 % capacity

Portland Playoffs = 49.93 % capactiy
Binghamton Playoffs = 66.43 % capacity

I should also add the population difference.

Portland, ME

Population (2010)
- City 66,194
- Density 3,029.2/sq mi (1,169.6/km2)
- Urban 188,080
- Metro 516,826

Binghamton, NY

Population (2010 census)[2][3]
- City 47,376
- Density 4,300.9/sq mi (1,656.6/km2)
- Metro 251,725

Not sure what the point of all that was. Just responding to a needless petty remark about Portland's attendance when it was actually going pretty well until they went head to head with a Boston/Montreal Game 7.

Also, the guy on a hockey message board of the affiliate of the opponent's team isn't the one to be asking. Just the nature of the AHL (short notice, nicer weather, weekday games, no group sales). Unless you're Hershey or Manitoba, your attendance numbers usually go down for the first couple of rounds.

I've got nothing but respect for Binghamton. The more small market teams in the league, the better. I'm rooting for the Sens to win the Cup if they advance past the Pirates.

The main issue with the playoffs this year for Portland is that just about every home game coincide with a Boston Bruins playoff game. This really does take a good number of the areas hockey fans away from the AHL playoffs. It was pretty disappointing in the first round when there was just over 1k in the stands.... I drive over an hour to go to portland games (almost 30 this year) others don't

same deal for manchester in the first round. I think 3/4 manchester games coincided with b's games.

Well, understandably, but maybe the New England area is an over-saturated area w/ AHL teams in a NHL region..

That has nothing to do w/ it..it's called a 'market' for a reason..and clearly the AHL is in a odd situation w/ the spread out regions including the West..

the NE region has too many teams to support for the AHL and numbers have proved it these playoffs..

EDIT: And I haven't checked previous numbers for Hartford/Springfield in the playoffs..

How can a region have too many teams? It's not like teams in one city are in direct competition with teams of another city.

If there are cities in the Northeast that shouldn't have teams, that's one thing - but it's not a matter of regional oversaturation.

I am just guessing on the fan's showing up for games, other than that is pure speculation..
