Scott Gomez for your salary dump

Pretty much is any team willing to trade their salary dump for Scott Gomez.

Yes Gomez is really over payed but he is still a decent hockey player. He can be a second line center on a lot of teams.

Does any team have a player who is also over payed that they would want to swap with for fresh starts. Please remember that their are players like Redden, Finger, Drury, Dumont, etc. who are really over payed and not even playing a regular shift in the NHL.

Is a Gomez for Campbell trade possible? Only if Markov leaves.

How much longer is his contract ? If so yes it would be great for both teams.

Makes no sense for Chicago. Campbell is still an integral part of the team, Gomez would have no place on it.

You have to be kidding! Gomez for Campbell? Campbell was, arguably, the best D-man for the Hawks in the regular season. Would you trade your top D for Gomez?

I understand Campbell is overpaid, but he is incredibly important to the Blackhawks, and shouldn't be considered just a "salary dump".

This, Toews and Sharp are clearly better than Gomez. No need to pay a 3rd line center 7.3 million.

How about Redden and Drury (1 year left) for Gomez

I would do Redden honestly, I think that he could serve on the bottom pairing and we could send Spacek and Gomez back to NYR

Lol, I was joking with the Drury and Redden part, but I wouldn't do Gomez for Redden, just because it would be more on our summer cap.

Regardless of which player was here, they would both be spending their time in the minors.

As crazy at it look there is a few team interested in Gomez ... Some for cap situation and other for a bad contract for bad contract !! Aparently Florida ,phoenix , NIY , Edmonton ,

Florida (cap situation)
Phoenix ( salary dump or cap situation)
NiY ( cap situation)
Edmonton ( bad contract for bad contract )

Don't get me wrong (Im not a Gomez fan) but he his not that bad ... He as some good asset to his game !! Everybody know that no one will have high stats under Martin control ... Correy perry wouldnt score 30 goal under Martin (it a metaphor) I'm pretty sure Gomez can help a team by doing 50 to 65 point but he will never worth 7.3m a year but we have to live with it !!

I could see him traded to Florida to reach the cap floor. I would like a player like Bergfors and a low pick in return.

Edmonton won't be trading for Gomez, unless there is some major incentive coming back with him. Arguably, we only have 4 bad contracts right now with Horcoff, Khabiboulin, Foster and Brule. Brule is only a cheap buyout, so there is no incentive to move him in this deal. If we move Khabiboulin, we will need to sign a back up goalie anyway, and I'm not sold that the Oilers could get one who is even average. Foster had an off year, but only has one season left on his current contract, so that doesn't work. And Horcoff works much better on the Oilers than Gomez probably would, so the Oil wouldn't have interest in that either. So unless its a Khabiboulin for Gomez, Kari Ramo and more good incentives (picks, prospects), I really don't see it happening from an Edmonton perspective. And I don't see Montreal paying that price.

I am the OP and thank you to everyone who has replied thus far.

I was expecting to get a bunch of Gomez sucks and he is not even worth a bag of pucks.

I am a huge Habs fan and yes I do realize that his salary is brutal but other teams have brutal salaries as well.

Habs might as well keep Gomez as bad as he is. Instead of taking on another team's bad contract. Next year Gomez should be tradeable possibly netting them a return. Not much on the free agent market this summer and Habs should have enough cap room to resign their free agents

A Gomez for Campell swap makes no sense for either team. Montreal getting a PMD which they already have in abondance and Chicago has 3 capable centers. Also I don't thing the Campbell contract is any better overall given that Gomez's deal will expire far sooner.

You can scratch the Isles off that list as well....

Tavares
Neilsen
Bailey
Konopka

Not to mention, they've been a bit gun shy with the checkbook. I imagine if they do spend money, it will be to upgrade the defense.

contracts like Gomez's are a necessary evil at this time. they serve as a reminder that these contracts (above average player, elite player dollars) just can't be given out anymore without serious consideration to how they negatively affect a team's ability to build a contender.

If Gomez's contract made his trade value worth a bag of pucks, then whoever we can get will also be worth a bag of pucks, if only another overpaid player or two.
