P-mart or Ehrhoff?

I'd take Ehrhoff on this team at $5M in a flash.

No, I'm saying Streit was worth it for the Isles. It's too bad a contender didn't get him. He is a stud defenseman. I too thought he was just a product of the Habs lethal PP but he's a legit PMD.

Ehrhoff in a second pairing role, paid accordingly is one thing. He faces weaker competition and benefits from a high percentage of offensive zone starts. Ask him to be your main guy against the best competition and you won't get your money's worth. Right now, at $3.1M for the Canucks, he's great. He's not worth $5M+

Top 50 best when in-worse when out list;

Zharkov
Palmieri
Fayne
Rolston
Salmela

That's impressive.

Flip it around and its;
Mair
Langenbrunner

Too funny. I expected to see Fraser on there too.

If Zharkov played a full season he'd likely end up between 3-10 goals. 3 if he is the worst shooter in the history of the NHL and all the way to 10 if he is just a regular shooter in the NHL. If he got Voros type luck for a season he could get to 15, but I was trying to keep it in realistic bounds.

Aren't they both named Nicklas? Not to butt in

Zharkov might hit 5 if he plays all next season in the lineup. I'll give him 2 good goals all season and maybe 1 or 2 flukers. That's 4 and maybe an EN? Such a black hole of offense

This. Ehrhoff is not a first pairing defenseman. Amazing how little attention people play to zone starts.

I bet Zharkov gets 10 with a full season. He creates way too many chances to not convert more often.

People should remember that we really only have one season of NHL play to evaluate him on. He's been the recipient of a lot of bad luck.

Which is why I asked 500 times during the season, why is Adam Mair (4th line, nothing more) getting time over Zharkov (3rd/4th line, PK, great forechecker) and Pelley (4th line, PK.)

All Mair did for us was take penalties and fight featherweights.

I hope people don't put much stock into those in/out statistics. I love Zharkov but he looks good with that stat since he wasn't on the team for the first half of the season.

There's a number of things that go into the turnaround. Some have more weight than others, but Zharkov getting playing time over someone like Pelley or Mair is one of them.

Volchenkov really isn't a minute eater though. He's only going to ever give you 18-20 mins a night.

Salvador isn't actually bad of a skater or passer either. I agree on that part

White played more minutes because he didn't take a slapshot to the face, didn't get suspended, and didn't lose his father over the course of the season. Plus, White seeing more minutes than anyone not named Tallinder was pretty effective considering that we were 8th in the league in defense. White fits the system perfectly, played well, and is not an issue.

We need another two-way minute eater like Tallinder. Fayne was somewhat serviceable in that role but you can't put that on him next year. He's not experienced enough.

That's why a guy like Pitkanen, big, strong skater, adept in all three zones I believe, is someone you want to add.

Idk about you, but how does a guy like Volch make 4.25million as an 18+ minute one dimensional defenseman. I know what he brings in terms of playoff intensity, checking, and PK work, but that number just doesn't add up.

You invest 4 million + in a more well-rounded defensemen.

I have no issue with what Volch is making. I think there were some who thought he would get more on the open market then he did. Every team needs that Shutdown guy on there D. The reason you might think its to much is because we also have White and Sal and they were here first. If we didnt have 5.9 mill tied up in those 2 players you wouldnt care about Volch as much.
