The best candidate from the Leafs is not going to be traded, and I think the Leafs overall are not a good trading partner for the Avalanche.
Unfortunately, I think you may be right, but we so desperately need a player like Stastny! What would be your opinion on a package like:

Nazem Kadri
Phillys 1st 2011
Jake Gardiner

a bit more maybe? Avs can always draft Larsson with that 2nd overall pick to get their stud defenceman!

If Stastny is involved it will be a package with either Riemer or Scheen. That's why we're not good trading partners.

True. Nobody knows what Larsson will become, and for all we know the Avalanche might come away with RNH, Landeskog, Couturier, etc., so I'm going to brush by the point about Larsson although you are correct.

Avalanche have a good group of defensive prospects, but it's not clear if any will play on the top pairing one day. Stefan Elliott? Maybe, but not worth putting too much stock into that right now. I consider Gardiner to be a top-4 prospect at this point more than top pairing, and the Avalanche already has a group of those. Late first round pick and (current) downgrade down the middle don't make it worthwhile.

Fair enough. Number one centres shouldnt be easy to pry away

Every time I see a new Stastny to Toronto thread I punch a wall then slide down it and cry.

A realistic deal would be something like this IMO:

Avs get: Schenn, Scrivens/Rynnas, PHI/BOS 1st
Tor gets: Stastny

But Burke won't trade Schenn and NO REAL RUMOR has ever stated that Stastny becomes available just because of what hid dad said, or because he had a poor season by his standards or the fact that they didn't make the playoffs.

I think this has been the worst Stastny proposal I have seen to date.

Trading the farm for a guy with a ridiculous contract who just came off a dissappointing year sounds like a bad idea. Good player.....Bad contract

Just curious, how is a 25 year old centre with THREE 70+ point seasons under his belt on a "ridiculous contract" after one bad year?

$6.6 million is a steal for a number one centre who can produce over 70 points a year. Yet alot of Leaf fans want to sign Richards who is older with similar production for $8 million or more. I dont get it.

The Avs fans above dont want to trade him for anything more than a big package with Schenn involved, and I dont blame them. They obviously arent down on him after his one off year. His contract is perfectly reasonable.

That's just me. If I'm paying a guy 2 times as much as some of the thirty goal scorers on my team he better be something special because when contract time comes with those other guys your hooped

You'd think with all those affordable 30 goal scorers you have there would be better proposals by now.

Probably not enough value going Colorado's away, but that's more than fine with me. I don't want Kulemin going anywhere.

Funny you bolded the two way player. Not sure if you don't know but Stastny is one of the better if not best Penalty Killers Avalanche have and has been the best or around the top of Colorado's roster for takeaways since he begun his career with us.

Only way Stastny was to be moved was if Colorado was seeking an elite young defenseman. Not saying Kulemin doesn't have potential or value but I can't see any team trading a proven two way playmaking center for a winger.

Leafs fan should have a trading section only for them. I was thinking that the Habs fan were bad but ....

Haha, Kulemin's 7 months younger and this awesome season he had has him tied in points with Stastny's "bad season"

Not to knock Kulemin, he's a solid player, but this deal wouldn't even come close if I were the Avs

Here is what I think will happen this summer.

Burke obviously is going all-in for Richards. If that doesn't work out, he'll go for a tweener (Connolly and Weiss) that will do fine for the time being, while Colborne/Kadri get time to continue to develop. No doubt Burke will poke Sherman on Facebook about Stastny and soon discover there is no deal to be made there and move on.

We need Kulemin, so no.

I'd give up Kadri, two firsts, and Aulie for Stasny. Dunno what the Avs need particularly.

And is it just me or is Stasny's contract not that bad? He didn't have a great year, sure, but he's still an excellent centre, 6.6 is a lot but not a huge amount, and it's only for three more years...

Glad to see this get shot down by Avs fans because as a Leaf fan, there is no way in hell I'd want a deal like this going down. Kulie is going nowhere.

Agreed Kuli is to important to the team, he is a KEY building block if we bring in a #1 C it's very likely he and Kessel will be his linemates.

I'm sure the Leafs have plenty of puck bags. Some of them even have pucks inside.

Well... at least even though this proposal is way off, nobody is arguing whether or not Stastny is a 1st line center.
