I love the Regher idea, I just wish we could add a "Rightie" too ...

Heres crazy idea to ponder: Deal for Regher and the coveted top Center then re-sign Monty ???

Steve Montador 2 year deal at 1.5 million per ..

To Calgary:

Paul Byron
Tyler Ennis
Chris Butler
1st Round Pick 2011

To Buffalo:

Robyn Regher
Mikael Backlund

The bring Backlund along slowly let him develop into the Top Center he is projected to be..

Vanek-Hecht-Boyes
Adam-Roy-Pominville
Gerbe-Backlund-Stafford
McCormick-Gaustad-Kaleta

Regher-Myers
Sekera-Weber
Leopold-Montador
Gragnani

Miller
Enroth

Great idea ?? or should I quit well I am ahead and goto work ???

If the premise is that Calgary is rebuilding, they're not trading Backlund. Plus, they need to be acquiring centers, not trading them. My guess at the price of Regehr?

Draft a Swedish defenseman. Watch him develop.

Hey, seems to work for nearly every other team.
WTF is it about Swedish defensemen the last few years??

I realize he wants to be in Buffalo and I am not totally sure whether or not he has these rights just yet in his career, but if an arbitrator awards him something like 4 or more per year, could we trade exclusive negotiating rights to NJ in return for Hank? I like Drew but he's a bit too streaky to depend on.
Uhm no

Eek indeed. Between that contract and his age, Tallinder probably has little, if any, trade value.

Not really interested in bringing him back, certainly not by giving up anything of value.

Hank is soft as butter. I like the idea of having a tough, shut down defenseman. Someone who can help Myers develop into the beast he is destined to become. Imagine two big tough dudes scaring the brieres, spezzas, and other sabre killers away from the net.

If Calgary is rebuilding, they'd probably want to move Daymond Langkow. He's dropped off considerably from the 60-70 point center he used to be and missed just about all of this year with a neck injury. He has 1 year left at $4.5 million. If other options go awry, he could be a cheap throw-in via trade to fill that 2nd/3rd C spot, although part of me thinks he'll just finish out his final year in Calgary and perhaps retire.

Rob Niedermayer with a $4.5m cap hit.

In all seriousness, same reason why I don't want Lombardi: Severe concussion, missed basically an entire season and on top of that bad season before all of that in Langkow's case.

That he is, and I think he would have been an absolute mess in a series like the one we just had against the Flyers.

I dig this. At some point, Tampa Bay can't have everyone. If they let Brewer go, I'm definitely in. They need to up Stamkos, sign a goalie (or two), decide what to do with Bergenheim... I could see Brewer slipping through to UFA.

Calgary has been run by a chimp for the last few years.

And one doesnt lightly trade a guy like Regehr.

Tampa has a new owner similar to Pegula (he's spending money out the wazzoo to change the perception of the franchise). Tampa has 23 million in cap space (and that's without a rise in the cap). Aside from Brewer, the only significant UFAs they have are Bergenheim, Gagne (probably gone, or back for cheap), and goaltending...

I think Brewer is a slam dunk to re-sign in Tampa... he's played on a perenial loser in St Louis for too long. Tampa is a great situation for him, and he's been the minute eater on the blueline in the playoffs (26+ per game)

When Sutter was their GM, the odds seemed good that Regehr would be moved - especially last summer, after the Flames brought Jokinen back. The Calgary beat reporters noted how the Flames "veteran core" (presumably, Iginla, Regehr, Kiprusoff, Langkow) had issues with Jokinen's work ethic during his first tenure in Calgary and were'nt apparently eager to welcome him back.

However, when Feaster took over, he repeatedly said he wanted to keep the veteran core together.

They could certainly stand to upgrade Montador with a big minute top 4 defense man.

Interesting.

As for Regehr, I've always been a fan, but I just get a bad feeling about acquiring him at this point in his career. I just think he's at that point now where he's going to start showing up on the injury list quite a bit too often. I'm not sure who is out there that I like better, and nobody is perfect, but...

trade with st. louis for barrett jackman or sign karl alzner from washington to an offer sheet. hey, that's what i did on nhl 11.

only thing about jackman is that he has a $3.6mil cap hit and only has one year left on his deal, and i don't know what it would take to acquire him.

I'd love to somehow snag Alzner from the Caps. Dude seemed like one of the few consistent and level-headed players on that team this year. I highly doubt the Caps are looking to break up that Alzner/Carlson pair though.

seems like there are going to be 4 options:
- acquired via trade
- acquired via FA Signing
- Butler
- Sekera

How about Sean Collins from Washington? To play the bottom pairing with Weber of course .. The hope Reggie or Butler develop with Myers into the "shut-down" pairing ..

Butler-Myers
Leopold-Sekera
Weber-Collins
Gragnani

IMO our D is one move away from being solidified and i'm praying Regier does just that, plus I want a "Rightie" ....

Sekera is the one defensman besides Myers that I don't want to trade. I could see him being a monster next year. Butler is the one I would like to move, even if it costs us more in picks/prospects.

That might get Ryan Suter's jockstrap but certainly not him. Sekera is already better than Polak, I'm not a fan of getting him just because he's a stay-at-home. Not sure about the Hanzal trade, I like him but I definitely don't see Phoenix trading him especially for guys that don't have more than 20 games of NHL experience.

agreed. Sekera was mostly great outside of a few shaky, brief runs and the late season injuries...another season of growth & experience will help him a ton...he's a top 4 guy i want to keep around, Butler, not so much.

Serkera and Polak are both RFA's. I'd rather keep Sekera.

The Hanzal deal seems like a lot to give up for a guy who is only signed threw next year. Plus it would be getting rid of our trusted backup, a postion in which hasn't been utilized since Biron was traded. I know you have Garon there but he's most likely the best UFA backup and he played extremely well this past season. I'd assume he would want to go to a team were he could compete for the job and maybe get 30+ starts.

Suter is also only signed for one more season. Seems to me that Nashville would want to hold onto him unless they're out of the playoffs come deadline day next year.

The 3 players you have us acquiring in a trade will all be free agents after next season and will have to be resigned along with Myers. I don't like it.
