Plus, if you're going to pay Lundqvist that much, build as good of a defensive team around him as possible. But if the Rangers aren't going all out for a Cup this year, then yeah, just develop your guys and go after it in future years.
Not trying to be rude, but frankly you have no clue what you are talking about. Yes, the Rangers likely won't win the cup next year. But our defense is one of the strongest aspects of this team. The only issue is the 3rd pairing, which would be a waste for Edler. Like I said, the Rangers would move other things before cally in a trade for Edler. Staal is an all-star, McD has the potential to be as good, if not better than Staal. Girardi and Sauer are stellar defensive d-men who shot block and play physical. Then we have a ton of youngsters right on the brink.

I would much rather give Del Zotto another year than trade Cally for Edler.

Yea the only way in hell we trade Cally is if that Ryan Kesler fella comes back.

No interest in Edler or Hodgson, I think we will get our PMD this offseason.

Cally for Kesler, that is all.

Regardless of what people here will tell you, if the Canucks approached the Rangers with an offer of Edler and Hodgson for Callahan, the Rangers would take that deal.

Edler is as good as Staal, some would argue he's better. That's another debate.

Staal for Callahan it's tough call, but when you throw in a guy like Hodgson to the mix, it changes everything.

Hodgson is the wildcard.

Rangers take the offer.

No they dont....Rangers have a surplus on D. As good as Edler is, losing Cally opens up a bigger hole than it fixes.

that would be closed with Hodgson's presense.

No he doesn't play the same type of game, but Hodgson is a much more talented player

Hodgson is not proven on the NHL level, at all. I'll stick with Cally. A guy who is easily the best leader we've had since Messier, can put up 30 goals and was on pace for 70 points this year.

And so is a player like Wolski or Zherdev, but they don't fill the hole of Callahan.

Callahan wouldn't be traded for any one player on the Canucks, aside from Kesler, or the Sedins. Not Edler.

Anyway I'm going to have to agree with you, Callahan is the Rangers Kesler.

The Rangers are nothing without Callahan. It would take Kesler.

Ugh, please don't start calling me RB anytime you see me around now.

I only have to keep it for a few more weeks

Ryan Kesler

Callahan is the Rangers Heart & Soul.
Dubinsky is their Spirit & Indomitable Will.

Chris Drury played in the Little League World Series.

I don't see why we need callahan, he's a great player but just seems like a poor man's kesler. (not a knock on cally)

Given the general consensus is kesler has to be going back then wouldn't that just be counter productive for the canucks? Unless they're throwing in staal as well I don't see this being viable.

First off, it's laughable you think Kesler would net you Cally and Staal. Second, I think it's been made pretty clear that the only thing that could replace Cally's void on this team would be Kesler, therefore, the OP asked what it would take for Cally to be on Vancouver and that is the ONLY answer.
