Rangers Prospect Poll: #7

Mats Zuccarello easily took round 6 and Tomas Kundratek easily won the right to be added to the poll. This upcoming year will be key for both of them. Zuccarello needs to establish himself as a full-time NHLer and Kundratek neds to show that he's ready for at least part-time duty.

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round. Also would be good to include a discussion/argument on why you voted for a particular prospect.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. LW Chris Kreider
2. D Ryan McDonagh
3. D Tim Erixon
4. RW Christian Thomas
5. D Dylan McIlrath
6. LW/RW Mats Zuccarello

Mats Zuccarello
Right Wing
Born Sep 1 1987 -- Oslo, Norway
Height 5.07 -- Weight 174 -- Shoots L

2010-11 New York Rangers NHL 42 6 17 23

"A very, very skilled individual. He has the hands and the hockey sense you need if you are a smaller player. When he played teams that were Norway's equal at the World Championships, he'd dominate the game."
- Gordie Clark

Doesn't look very weak on this picture.

Voted for Carl Hagelin. His ceiling, as a solid second liner, is pretty much as high as Miller's, his most likely outcome (as a good third liner) is exactly the same as Miller's and the odds of him making the NHL are much, much higher. With two players who have a similar ceiling and one has a much better chance of making the NHL, the choice is clear.

Add Andrew Yogan. He was injured, but he's big, talented and his brief performance in Hartford (2 games: 2 goals, 3 total points) as a 19-year-old was encouraging.

It's Miller time.

I think his upside is for the most part underrated around here, but that's just my 2 cents.

Add Yogan.

Yeah, at the very least he seems to be a larger Hagelin.

Gonna go Hagelin then Miller.

I think Hagelin's skating ability helps add a very interesting dynamic to any third line we could run.

Add Yogan.

For me it was between V-Tank and Hagelin. Voted Tank since I feel this is the season he should be at the worst our #7. I think Hagelin is gonna need some time in HDF.

Add Bourque

Hagelin, add Fogarty. Clark et al really wanted him and see some upside, so I trust them.

Concussion problems and he's a tiny player, they dont match well. But hes got a ton of skill.

I really like Bourque. Very talented dude with fantastic bloodlines who just plays the game the right way.

But injury problems and size, I'm not certain he's an NHL talent. I think if he has a good AHL season he'll come up a decent amount of spots next ranking.

Hagelin led his team in scoring in both his junior and senior years, and not by a little bit either. He had 49 points this year and the next highest scorer Louie Caporusso had 31.

Caporusso would need to score an extra 58%+ just to catch up to Hagelin. The kid carried the team to the college championship Finals, not just in terms of offense, but also by being the team captain.

He has the skill, he has the speed and he has the maturity to play in the NHL.

This.

To me, it was a close call between Yogan and Lindberg. Bourque shouldn't enter the poll for another half a dozen spots as far as I am concerned.

Why? It seems like you just don't like college players because college scoring isn't as high as junior scoring.

To me, Hagelin is going to top out at what I consider Miller's minimum to be.

Voted Miller. Add Fogarty.

Pavel Valetenko looks like a stud in the ahl which is much more impressive than anything Hagelin has accomplished. Also, McDonaugh has already filled into are top 4 on defense and could eventually be a first pairing defencemen, how does that not make him better than a guy who put up a total of 47 points in 70 college games.

I agree with McDonagh being a superior prospect to Kreider, but that's because of how good he is, not because Kreider is bad.

Valentenko looks good in the AHL because the league isn't as fast as the NHL. His speed will be a problem in the NHL. The guy will max out as a third pairing defenseman, if that.

Hagelin is pretty much ready for third line duty today. When you dominate offensively while also being a very responsible player and the captain of a team in the college Finals, that's excellent. Realistically speaking (based on the development of similar style prospects drafted in the same range), we should hope that Miller will be as good as Hagelin in a few years.

I'm surprised there's so little love for Oscar Lindberg. The guy has established himself as an average player in the SEL at the age of 18. SEL is about on par with the AHL, and I bet that if we had a defense-first, excellent on faceoffs 18-year-old player score 28 points in 82 AHL games, he'd be regarded as a top prospect.

He had basically the same number of points as Fasth in the same league, but he's bigger and better defensively. Fasth has a higher upside, but Lindberg is no chopped liver either.
