Syracuse Crunch assistant coach Mike Stapleton has left the team after one season to take the head job of the OHL's Soo Greyhounds.
Crunch head coach Mark Holick said Stapleton told him of the decision a few days ago. Holick was unsure who will replace Stapleton.
That decision will be up to Ducks GM Bob Murray, who is currently busy with Team Canada in the World Championships. -Read More-
[QUOTE=Elvstrand;33703542]Did they re-sign him or was he already under contract? I was sure he was a UFA... Whatever, great having him back.
QUOTE]
Guenin was a UFA but was re-signed by the Ducks for two years. They are paying him a large AHL salary, so my guess is that they view him as a player with a NHL fill in potential in the event of injuries.
Maybe. But a large AHL salary probably means he is committed to being part of the leadership in Syracuse for 2 seasons (captain or alternate captain).
I see it as this. Syracuse is lacking veteran leadership, especially with green and dipenta most likely leaving and this is a way to ensure the team has a solid leader and a good ahl defenseman that will help this team succeed.
On June 17th the Anaheim Ducks and defenseman Nate Guenin agreed on a 2-year contract extension. Guenin was acquired from Colombus in exchange for Trevor Smith on Jan. 4. Guenin played a total of 73 games in the AHL this season, collecting 17 points, a +6 rating, and 65 PIM. In his 43 games with the Crunch, he tallied 2 goals and 10 assists. He will be a veteran precense in Syracuse, having appeared in 348 career contestsin the AHL, ammasing 14 goals, 64 assists, 496 PIM's, and a +26 rating. Originally drafted 127th overall by the New York Rangers in 2002, Guenin has played in 17 career NHL games, totaling 2 assists and 8 PIM's. Anaheim will pay him 150k next year for playing in Syracuse, and 525k if he manages to squeeze onto the Ducks roster.
I don't fully understand the minor league system. Are all the players for Syracuse property of the Ducks?
Some of them, but some are on AHL only contracts. Its all about who owns the contract, so if the Ducks signed them they own their contract and rights. If the Crunch sign them directly then the Crunch own their contract and rights.
