The Islanders picked up the option on Nabokov, so if he plays in the NHL next year he has to be traded or play in NY.

Even though he's UFA he got his option picked up? The ****?

Also, I'm sure we could probably get him for next to nothing, considering he refuses to play for them.

He owes the Islanders a year of service, so they had the option to keep him for this year. Kind of like, you want to screw us? We'll screw you over 10x harder. And I agree with them.

Someone said if he is 35 before June 30th of this year or something like that. So he would technically be signed without a 35+.

The cut-off day for 35+ contracts is June 30th.

Vokoun was born on July 2nd.

I still reject this thread on principle.

I don't really get it...I've been sure of an early exit since this whole downturn started in January, but I'm still just angry.

Hopefully July 1st means happy news...

First off, we can always trade something small for his rights before July 1st. Second, didn't we sign Chris Pronger before he turned 35 because we thought it would mean no 35+ contract?....and then we got screwed?

We signed him aged 34 during the last year of his previous contract. When the new contract we gave him started he was 35 and hence Homer screwed himself.

Yeah, I don't get the love for Konopka either. We've been really bad in the "don't take stupid and lazy penalties department" the last couple of seasons, even if this one was a little bit better, and Konopka excels at doing just that. He's good at face offs and won't back down from anyone, but we can definitely find better options for our 4th line imo.

I don't really know how this works, but as far as I can understand the Isles are free to trade him just as they are with any of their other players. He's their property and not an UFA because they tolled (is that the correct term here?) the contract. So, he's signed for one more year for them with a cap hit of 570K if I got the numbers right. If they want to trade him or at least trade him within the division is another matter.

Do whatever it takes to move Hartnell. His $4m cap hit is a real embarassment and evidence that cap handling is not one of the Flyers strengths!!!

To be honest, if your name isn't Giroux, JVR, Briere you can leave this team IMO.

No one else showed last season that they are worth another roll of the dice, so why should it be so?

I appreciate the team won't go through a re-build, but I think it's seriously time to start riding the player carousel. This team got stale really really quickly.

PS - Jumping from coach to coach isn't the answer either. The corre of Flyers players had two seasons to get it done, and they couldn't. Now find some players who can.

Get Vokoun. Trade Hartnell. Possibly trade Carle.

If only it were that easy.

Anyone heard about Mike Richards and Lavy being on no speaking terms? Was listening to WIP this morning for a few minutes and heard Macnow say that Richards and Lavy are not speaking to each other right now. That was the first I've heard of it.

why would they have any reason to speak to each other right now? does coach call all the players before night-night time?

Not sure where else to post this:

JVR had a goal today in the IIHF against Switzerland in the 5-3 loss. They were just talking about him on VS and saying he seemed to get better as the game went on and they look forward to seeing what he can do as he gets more comfortable and gets some rest.

On this note, if Carle and Hartnell were to depart...what do you guys think of a combo of Cole and Pitkanen coming to Philly? The salaries are pretty close, yet the Carolina duo has been better imo.
