I'm surprised at how many teams are looking at Bieksa as their #1 free agent acquisition.

Very interested indeed.

BTW I am of the opinion that we draft Nugent-Hopkins and he goes back to the WHL to bulk up

Haha, gotta love it when people are planning to tank before the draft of the previous year.

Nice, but poor Cody Hodgson. If Hodgson is not on the team next year, you would have to think that the Canucks would try and move him for a different prospect, no?

no he's only going to be 20-21 next season. Whoever out of him/Sweatt/Shirokov/Schroeder has the best camp gets a spot in the top 9.
Alternating with Higgins/Raymond whoever is in a slump moves to the 3rd line.

I'm guessing Shirokov gets that spot with the way he played in his call up and his age. No point of rushing Hodgson. Hodgson probably makes the team the year after as a 21/22 year old in place of Malhotra or Lappiere in a center role

Notes:
1. If Blues get a new ownership and bigger budget, I could imagine management going after a UFA like Ehrhoff and overpaying to get him on our roster, giving Pietrangelo a legitimate top-pairing partner. The $5.5M here might not be enough of an overpayment, but it might not be too far off. Colaiacovo would probably get traded away if this happened, but for now he's still on. If this doesn't happen, Colaiacovo is 1st-pairing and Nikitin goes back to 3rd.
2. Berglund and Oshie get a 2yr deal like Perron's to hold them over and gauge how much they'll be worth for a lock-in contract. Nikitin, Sobotka also receive these types of contracts, but with lighter payment. Bishop is brought up on a light contract to see if he's able to handle backup duty, and Polak gets his raise.
3. Crombeen moved to 4th line center, flanked by Reaves and Porter. Janssen gone for good.
4. Tarasenko is signed to an ELC and placed on 3rd line in accordance with Coach Payne's "Two sherpas and a fantasy climber for every line" statement. D'Agostini moved to 13th forward again in preparation for a long season filled with injuries.

So as you see it is only a 20 man roster with 1.3m in cap space. I think Hagman needs to go he isn't doing it for us I would like to see Stajan and Langkoe go as well but I liked Stajan when he came over but I want to see them play one more season but all these underachievers that are not wanted by Calgary why would any other team want them?
Ok so I think Feaster should acquire a 2nd right wing for more depth on that side I don't like Kostopolous and Moss. I don't think we could get any big names this off season. The top 4 is ok but I don't like Sarich there. OH yeah NUMBER 1 CENTER IS Needed AS WELL!

And if you really think Burke will try to land Vinny you're going to have to give up something. It's going to cost you more than Schenn and Kadri (which are already two big pieces from TO)
Toronto has a better chance of landing Vinny than Vancouver landing Parise.

Absolutely. I wasn't sure what to expect from him when the Hawks acquired him but I liked the way he played and he seemed to fit in very well with our mobile defensive system. He's versitile enough to play in any situation and he's got more offensive game to still be tapped.

I don't think Laich is a first line center. I think Grabovski is better offensively than Laich.

For Boston... If we win the cup then alot of my plans need to be scrapped. Shouldnt fix what isnt broke... but if we lose I think it will be an upgrade on the blueline that is necessary both short term and long term in order to get us to the promise land.

My key moves...

1/go after brad richards. I know we dont need a center, but signing richards allows us to deal krecji and i think krecji has tons of value. krecji will be in line for a huge raise down the road. we can either have just krecji or richards AND the return for krecji for around the same money. richards is rumored to want to end up on the east coast for a big market team with a chance to win... and that doesnt decribe NY or Toronto or Buffalo very well at all. If Boston does make a similar offer for contract... why couldnt we walk away with the prize?

2/ so move number 2 is deal krecji. We have to have richards locked up before we risk it. So i guess we must make some sort of deal with dallas for rights... then i see columbus as the most likely landing spot for krecji considering their needs and our needs. Off the top of my head Id ask for Russell/and a first. If not from columbus then some other team with a young puck moving dman and a high first.

3/I do think that it seems to make perfect sense to me that Andrew Ference could be dealt to Edmonton. He is such a character guy and Edmonton needs character guys. Hed also be a top 4 dman for them. Id like to expand the deal and try to get tom gilbert and gilbert brule back. brule is losing his spot in edmonton to all their other young small forwards. Gilbert needs a change of scenery. Maybe toss in Johny Boychuck and Dan Paille into the deal to balance it all out. not sure how high Edmonton is on Gilbert. Id probably part with a second round pick instead of Boychuck if thats what Edmonton would rather have.

When the dust settles I would try to move out Ference/Boychuck and maybe Seidenberg to free up room to upgrade my defense.

a final lineup might look a bit like...

Horton/Richards {figure around a 5.5 cap hit but sign him till hs in a rocking chair}/Lucic

Seguin/Bergeron/Marchard {no room to bring back recchi}

Peverly/Kelly/Caron {Savard might end up coming off the ltir and figuring in here}

Thornton/Cambell/some minimum salary guy

backup rotates between the guys at AHL and 7th dman

Gilbert/Chara {guys look so much better when paired with Chara
Seidenberg/Russel {personally think Russell has tons of upside to show}
McQuaid/Valabik {not sure which kid will impress the most but would love Valabik to surprise}
Kamfer and Bartowski and Alexandrov all compete for the 6/7 spots with Valabik

thomas/rask share net until rask takes over and eventually one day thomas will get moved to clear cap room

savard will also get moved if he gets healthy enough.

im very ok to go into the future with richards/bergeron 1-2 punch at center and lucic/horton/seguin as my top cap hits for talent on the wings. love krecji too so if he stays i am very happy with him also.

but if we can get the columbus pick then i could see us ending up with murphy or hamilton to further upgrade the D. One of them and richards is greater then krecji by himself

Washington Capitals:

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Knuble
Laich - Johansson - Kuznetzov (Fehr)
Upshall - Reasoner - Eakin
Hendricks - Beagle - Chimera

Alzner - Carlson
Weber(Bieksa) - Hannan
Erskine - Wideman
Orlov

Neuvirth
Holtby

Resign:
Laich
Hannan

Walk:
Gordon
Bradley
Arnott
Sturm
Poti - seems to be fighting for his career with injuries

Sign:
Upshall
Reasoner

Bring up:
Eakin
Beagle
Kuznetzov - if he's ready and will come
Orlov

Make some sort of trade packaged around sending Semin and Green for Weber and sign him long term. If that doesn't work, trade Semin and Wideman and pair Green with Erskine and make a run at Bieksa.

Trade Varlamov

Lol, I was referring to his playoff mistake

1. The Leafs will likely hold on to Bozak. He seems well liked by his teammates and poised for a bounce-back year, but I still see better options (like, for example, getting Kadri accustomed to his natural centre position with sheltered third line minutes)

2. Plenty of Leafs fans wouldn't want either Laich or Connolly, the latter of who I'd envision a stop-gap on a short-term contract. But truthfully, Connolly's as creative a UFA centre as anyone not named Brad Richards, and Laich provides positional flexibility, grit and size. I'm personally hoping he actually hits UFA.

3. I'm a huge fan of Pitkanen's game, and he'd likely not cost as much as, say, Ehrhoff. White could be another option, and as much as I'd like to see him back, he doesn't strike me as someone Burke would bring back (and he might not want to return, either.

4. I don't think Frattin will be with the Leafs, but if all goes well in the minors, he's someone who could step in once Lupul's contract expires / someone gets injured. Also, if Connolly is given, say, a two year contract, it'd give time for Kadri to develop past a third-line C, let Colborne develop into an NHLer, or simply buy time to draft, trade or sign a legitimate first line centre.

So, here's my stopgap Leafs:

Trust me, you do NOT and I repeat DO NOT want Joni Pitkanen in Toronto. That will be an epic disaster waiting to happen.
