If Pouliot doesn't in fact receive a Q.O. by day's end, you will find out his real market value around the NHL.

Do you really think Gauthier did not try to obtain assets in return for his rights?

trade Pouliot to Buffalo for 3 days of whispering into the ears of Mike Grier and Patrick Lalime. Let them become free agents, call the trade a success.

it was a popular move for Gauthier last year, why not try again.

Looks like he's getting a 2-way deal in another city. He better work his ass off where he lands or else he'll be hitting the waiver wire.

Pretty obvious, but I'm sure most teams are steering clear of a player both Lemaire and Martin can't get to play anywhere near a decent level.

I just hope we can get something... in return for him. He has the potential to become a stud, but I don't know if he has the heart or character.

I don't know the guy, but there's definetely something wrong with him. He's coming of the two best years stats-wise and nobody wants him.

I think his main problem is on the mental side. He gives up too quick.

He's Zherdev 2.O. My hope is that someone like the Flyers picks him up and he sucks even worse for them. Really there is no excuse, the guy's effort and consistency are simply not there. He began the season playing a simple game and finishing his checks and it made all the difference in the world. Then he just stopped. One of mentally weakest players around. Two years in a row he rode the bench for the playoffs despite desperate injury situations and a team that's desperate for wingers with size. His trade value is nil, IMO.

Can't trade

Similar to Sergei last year, want to trade, nobody want.

Pouliot might have to stay for a little while. Gauthier might offer something to keep options. I could see another year, one way at 1M.

Earlier in the tread, Desharnais was mentioned with him. Considering that Desharnais seems to fix every winger he plays with, why not pair him with Pouliot for 2 months?

He was paired with him last year. Didn't work that well.

If you really want to know if he can be better, just put him with Plekanec and Cammy on the RW for a while. After 10 games we will definitely know if he's a bust or not.

Pouliot's qualifying offer can't be 1 mil, I think minimum is 1.35 mil plus a certain percentage. If they could sign him for 800k one way they probably would.

His QO is 1.35M$. You only need to add a % if his previous contract was under 1M$ per.

The thing with Pouliot, and I think everyone can agree, you can CLEARLY see that the talent is there. He just needs to put it all together. Is Martin the right coach for a player like Benny? Probably not.

But I've said it before and I'll say it again. He has the skill level to be a consistent 60-70 point player in the league. It's highly unlikely he ever reaches that level though.

Still, I'd qualify him, and give him at least one more season.

We need to stop giving away talent for nothing.

Agreed. Confirmed here on capgeek.com:

Because his base salary of $1,350,000 is greater than or equal to $1,000,000, it does not receive an increase for the purposes of his qualifying offer.

If pouliot does indeed leave because PG doesn't QO him, then I wish him the best. Perhaps not the strongest mentally but afaik, not a bad kid. That being said, I hope we keep him and give him 1 year with some occasional PP time.

BTW, anyone else thinking this a "made them sweat" technique by management?

Pouliot should get at least a QO from us. Let him play third line with Eller all season and see where that takes him. I can see him getting 40 points there. Plus, he could play some second or first line minutes if there are injuries, not too bad for 1.35m.

Well, Pouliot can only leave as a UFA if not given a QO before June 30 midnight.

there aren't many players who fail to get their QO especially at this relatively cheap end of the salary spectrum, and this would be a colossal fck-up by PG if it happened. As utterly average Gauthier is at his job he's not this much of an idiot.

Pouliot needs to be qualified before 5PM ET today or he will officially become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Eller popped his own shoulder back in to finish a hockey game. He kept going to the corners all year dispite still needing 15 lbs of man slapped onto him. He deserves better than to play with Benny Poo.

I doubt Ben would feel any pressure from that.

He hasn't shown any drive after being benched or sent to the press box. Guy is the ultimate tin man.
