I think that would be a pretty nice compromis in the Sabres favor

Stafford's side will be looking for 4.0-4.5 range
Sabres probably want to be in the 3.0-3.5 range

I understand, I truly do, I realize that Stafford will get paid by Sabres or another team 4+ mil./yr.

I just HOPE (or wish) we could sign him to a 1 or 2 yr. deal for a 3 mil./yr, see if he can equal or exceed the season he just had. I am pessimistic when it comes to Stafford and I want to be proven wrong before throwing 4+ mil./yr at him.

Oh well

I get your point, but the idea is not to sit around and wait to get your players locked up. If the previous front office regime taught us anything it is that. In the cap era you need to get your best players locked up for as cheap as possible for as long as possible.

If you sign Staff to a 1 or 2 year deal, and he turns into a 40-40 guy, you're looking at a contract in the 6-7 mil range as opposed to one that could be between 3.5-5 mil.

But yes, that is a playoff team, not a cup team 9 times out of 10. If we land Richards and let Connolly walk and sign a veteran defenseman, than we're looking at a Cup contending team.

Vanek-Richards-Stafford
Ennis-Roy-Pominville
Boyes-Hecht-Gerbe
McCormick-Goose-Kaleta

Regehr-Myers
Sekera-Weber
Butler-Leopold
Dude Miller isn't THAT good.

NO surprise with that flying out of your piehole.

Very good teams with very good goaltending USUALLY go deep or win the cup. There are a few exceptions, but more times than not, that is the case.

The Sabres team this season was mediocre. Miller was below his norm for a good chunk of the season. If a better team is put in front of Miller, Miller will most likely play much better. With Enroth taking (hopefully) 15-20 games next season, Miller will be better rested for the second half of the season and into the playoffs. Your blind hate for Miller clouds any objectivity and therefore valid fact based rants you have about him.

I did not nor will I think Miller is "elite", but he is in the "very good" category. You call him below average all season long. That makes you look detached from reality.

Go to 29 other teams boards and ask simply .... Would you want Miller over your current starting goalie? I bet 17-20 teams boards say yes. Get a clue.

And their is teams that would say they DON'T want Miller either, and it wasn't just like Miller was playing bad so the team did bad because he is THAT important. Alot of our players weren't playing well. Miller rested will hopefully be a good thing but he was rested this year as well, and he Didn't do that good besides 2 games. If we get some good players (which I hope we do) and he is rested again and if we don't make a good run and Miller plays average again he can go for all I care.

Half of the line combos in this thread include Connolly. Unreal.
