The people who saw Jones at that age probably didn't see Ekblad at that age, but for how advanced Jones is at a young age, Ekblad seems to be even more advanced at 15 than Jones was (Just judging on comments on the both of them).
On his size, he looks even bigger than he did when TSN interviewed him right after he got exceptional status. It's stupid how much attention the Justin Bieber look-a-like in Connor McDavid gets from TSN and they talked about Ekblad only twice.
I'm pretty sure also that Jones was barely 6 feet at the same age.

Agreed, McDavid is getting a lot more attention than Ekblad, it's mainly due to the fact that he's a forward but they should've talked about Ekblad more than they did.

I understand that but Ekblad has the potential to be a generational defensemen and they talked about him twice that I know of, when he got it and they had the 2 minute piece on him and a passing nod when talking about the Ivan Hlinka tournement this year they mentioned he would be there.
They're both Canadian too which makes it even stranger.

I don't get it either, agree with you again. TSN has really been shunning him compared to what McDavid has been getting, which in a way is a good thing since it does keep some pressure off him.

Might be good for him also if he underperforms and doesn't have the media knocking him even farther down.
So last years exceptional status player is off to a pretty good start, 8 points in 11 games. Last year at one point he was off to a offensive tear but then slowed down, hoping he keeps this up.
Jones is a skinny kid with a baby face whereas Ekblad has a full beard and a well-developed frame. I think Jones is going to grow into his body more whereas Ekblad is physically matured already. Just something to keep in mind when assessing future value. Ekblad may be younger but physically I'm not so sure.

Actually Ekblad does have some growing left to do himself, it may not seam it at least right now but he's not fully matured yet at all.
Ekblad is a beast. Don't why he gets next to no hype. The kid is listed at 213, he'll probably finish around 230, nowhere finished growing into his body.

Him going first next year is a done deal already. Thats why there is no hype.
He's not a lock to go first, but the main reason that there's little to no hype even though he should be getting a ton is because of the position he plays.
Saw him play tonight against the Knights and he is absolutely the real deal. Seems to me he relies a little bit too much on his stick (that thing must be 6 feet long). If he plays a little more aggressively he'll be unstoppable. Reminded me of Chara without the edge.
How has his skating looked this season?
I know it was receiving some criticism this summer at the Hlinka camp and such.
Very good. It was kind of expected that he wouldn't exactly be the best skater because of his size and age.
He's improved not only his technique but his speed as well (which was actually pretty good in first place). His acceleration could use a bit of work, but it's not a big deal.
Just noticed he has 15 points in 17 games, 5 less than Mcdavid in the same amount of games. His offense really has taken a step up this year compared to last seasons streak where he had 20 points in 35 games or something around that.
Pretty good for someone who isn't regarded for offense first.
Can anyone give an accurate player comparison? Is he a Lidstrom-Pietranglo type who relies on smarts? Or more of a Weber who relies on his strength?
In a perfect world, Holmgren trades up for this kid and drafts him in Philly. Seems to be an unreal player, a shame I can't watch him much.
