Since my dementia has afforded me the opportunity to discuss unavailable Calgary Flames, I'd like to expand my wish list to include Iginla. He's the perfect Pred in my mind and eventually he'll realize the organizational wasteland he resides in and ask for a trade, right?

If we let Dekanich go this off-season, I would love to pursue Benjamin Conz. Undrafted, but was a beast in the WJC.

Benjamin Conz is not ready to step into the No. 3 role that Dekanich will leave behind and Jeremy Smith earned the right to start in Milwaukee next season. Atte Engren and Chet Pickard will likely rotate as the backup to Smith in Milwaukee and the dual starter (split affiliation w/MTL) in Cincinnati (ECHL).

With the addition of Hellberg to the organization on Saturday, we are clearly happy with tall, athletic goalies that provide a sense of consistency in the crease. Conz is short and doesn't really make saves, he is a straight blocking goalie that gives up a ton of rebounds and needs his defense to bail him out in that regard. I think we've moved past that type of goalie after seeing the struggles the team had rotating between Rinne and Ellis a couple years ago...

Who do you guys think we could go for in free agency or via a trade possibly to help us score more goals. I hope we really invest in a goalscorer because if we can get one then I can see us getting really far this year, especially if our defense can play as well as they did last season.

Jussi Jokinen (UFA) is at the top of my wish-list, but he may be out of our price range. Of course Parise and Stamkos (who appearently isn't close to a deal with Tampa) are my dreams, but literally have a 0% chance of happening. Jokinen sounds like a plan.

Fleischmann, assuming his health problems are under control

We still gotta sign our guys first so we have an idea of how much money we are working with...

In other news, Predators opt to let Steve Sullivan go. Completely expected, but still sad to see it officially written down. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20...ws|text|Sports

Jokinen is a very good sniper but this team still needs a playmaker.

You have that completely backwards. We've got a few great playmakers, but no one outside of hornqvist to pull the trigger.

Agreed.

I'd consider O'Reilly, Kostitsyn, Erat, Dumont (hehe), Legwand all more of playmakers (not saying they are elite).

This team needs someone to freaking shoot. Say what you want about Arnott, but he did that.

Laich and Kopecky locked up today. I think people are gonna be way over-priced in free agency. Let's hope Poile doesn't do any thing stoopid.

Jokinen is an interesting one, he is the sort of player that could get us that little bit further through the playoffs and give us more goals throughout the season. I think if we could manage to sign him then we could be looking at going even deeper into the playoffs, but I don't want to get ahead of myself...

I know the first year jokinen was on fire with his shootouts. I think he is living off a one year reputation as if I saw right he is now 28 for 60 in his career. as in under 50 percent. knowing that he started out 9 for 9 or whatever it was, says he isn't what people he is there. just wanted to make that point.

Wasn't last season the first time Upshall has played a full 82 games ever? Upshall isn't what we need. Especially not if he is wanting a raise. $2.25+ for a guy who gets hurt a lot and might get you 30 pts is too high of a price to pay IMO.

Most likely wants too much $$$, and he isn't exactly what we need.

Looks like Goc is headed to UFA territory.

"Right now my instinct is that he’s going to go to July 1, but the door is always still open from our end to return to Nashville," Goc's agent Scott Greenspun said.

Of course, a lot could happen in between now and July 1, but Goc could be a nice addition for a team if he makes it to unrestricted free agency. He wins face offs, plays on the power play and the penalty kill. Last season he made $775,000, so teams wouldn't have to break the bank for him.

He also says that there is nothing to report on Dumont "at the moment".

Tootoo in every play:
Skate just past blue line - SLAPSHOT!

Toots shoots like a madman - of course not even our guys will stand in front of his shot b/c its a 1/3 chance it goes on goal, 1/3 chance the puck is headhunting, and 1/3 chance he doesnt have the room to shoot and loses the puck.

I know this didn't seriously address anything you guys were actually talking about needing, but I find it kind of funny how focused Toots is on shooting. (though he did some playmaking in the playoffs and was quite good)

Much of Tootoo's success lately (especially at the end of last season and in the playoffs) came from his ability to simplify his game. That means taking shots if the lane is open, creating traffic, centering the puck from anywhere instead of trying to force a pass through defenders, etc.

edit: and not always looking for the big hit helps

Maybe Gabriel Bourque gets a chance with us next season. I keep hearing good things about him I also hear that he is a pretty tough dude so he would seem to fit the mould of a Preds forward. He might get a chance with Sullivan on his way.

Would you want Arnott back on a 1 year deal if it was for like half of last years contract?

I'd be curious. I didn't watch him play last year and his numbers have plummeted from where they were for the better part of his Preds career. If I thought he could get back to be 50 points or close to it, I'd consider around 2M.

I can't justify too much higher than that though because I'd rather spend that $2M on something more valuable and make that attempt towards landing a 60-70pt player.

I would love for the team to sign Erik Cole.
