Richard Donner:Goonies sequel is happening

Link has video:

'Goonies' Director Sequel is Happening!

Quote:

Corey Feldman just got awesome news -- Richard Donner told us he's making a sequel to "The Goonies" ... and wants to bring back the entire cast.

Donner was signing autographs in Bev Hills when he dropped the bombshell ... genuinely surprising our photog.

What Donner didn't say ... whether he'll recast the main characters and bring in Corey, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Data for cameos, or if these guys will actually play the same roles 28 years later. A gnarly but interesting thought.

Original director? Check.

Original cast? Check. Please not as cameos.

Let it be a true sequel. The potential for awesome is high.

Call me negative, but this has terrible written all over it. First one isn't that great a film anyways. Mostly nostalgia.

Mama Fretelli (Anne Ramsey) died a year or two ago (err....bad memory, actually 1988...who was it that I'm thinking of then?) and Sloth (John Matuszak) died in 1989, so at least two original cast members won't be there.

I guess it's good news for Martha Plimpton as it gives her something to do now that Raising Hope got cancelled.

Loved The Goonies... I think my friends and I wore that tape out one summer. Only question is, what is this going to be about? I mean, will the original cast members have only a minor/cameo role? Will there be a new set of kids out looking for One-Eyed Willie's lost booty??

Please do this movie justice... please!

Loved the original but I don't understand who is asking for it and what the point is? I can't see something like this doing any kind of box office business.

But Donner has said stuff like this before. I'll believe it when I see it.

The movie was an adventure story about a bunch of kids looking for lost treasure. It delivered exactly that. Not sure what the complaint is. Or was there not enough character development?

Data's English will almost certainly improve. But as for getting away with other humor in the film? The "One-eyed Willie" gag seems a little tame these days, don't it?

On the fear this movie will be of poor quality...who can say? But I will point out Feldman did Lost Boys II about a decade ago now and it was reputedly a straight-to-video embarrassment.

It's Richard Donner. I'll always give him the benefit of the doubt.

They actually made two Lost Boys sequels. I've only seen the first sequel Lost Boys: The Tribe since I got for like $3 or 4 bucks on Amazon. Now admittedly I like crappy movies but this one was a piece of **** of epic proportions but it does get points for Autumn Reeser being in it.

Sean Astin Teases Rumored Goonies 2 Sequel: "We Never Say Die!"
Quote:
Hey you guyssss! Fans of the cult classic The Goonies got into a tizzy over the weekend when its director, Richard Donner, revealed that a sequel is in the works. They weren't the only ones abuzz, though. Its star Sean Astin joined the excitement via Twitter on Saturday, April 5.

"Huh? What? #Goonies 2," Astin, 43, wrote. "We Never Say Die!"

Astin, 14 when the movie was released, starred in the 1985 blockbuster smash alongside Josh Brolin, Raising Hope's Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Jonathan Ke Quan. The film, written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, centered on a group of kids in search of a pirate treasure.

Word of a remake surfaced on Saturday when Donner was approached by TMZ cameras. Asked if he was going to direct a trendy comic book film, he quipped: "If you call Goonies a comic book. We're doing a sequel."

For Astin, getting the old gang back together -- including Chunk (Cohen), of course -- seemed like a possibility for the past two years. Back in 2012, the Rudy actor spoke of reuniting the cast during an interview with IGN.com. "I'm 1,000 percent certain there will be a sequel," he said. "I will bet my children on it."

He also opened up about it during the Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con this weekend. "I've known that, a year after the original film, Steven Spielberg and Dick [Donner] had wanted to make a sequel. I know they've developed lots of screenplays, and it's been a rumor for a long time," he told Paranormal Pop Culture. "But none of us are getting any younger so if they want to do it, they might as well do it sooner rather than later."

"I don't know if they would ask me to be a part of it," he continued. "Dick sort of said -- with the TMZ reporters -- that he hoped all the stars would come back. Everybody has a great affection for it."

It gets points for the post-credits scene, which
Spoil:
reunited Corey Feldman and Corey Haim.

As long as the script is good it should be a very good sequel .

I know it's a cliche to say that Hollywood's out of ideas, but....

Hollywood's seriously out of ideas.

And Game Grumps is handling the real Goonies sequel just fine.

1. Hire Corey Feldman.
2. Give him creative control over all aspects. Especially the music.
3. Profit.
