I love hockey and the Sharks too much to ever actually quit on them.
I like to think I flirt with the idea, but I'd never actually give up on them. I just take the punches to the gut every spring and magically get happy around late summer thinking that this could be the year they finally change.
Basically I'm an idiot.
Haha... count me in as a fellow "idiot."
I'm also an A's fan, so it feels like I get this post-season underachieving gut punch all year, every year!
Ill stop watching until September. Im not going anywhere. This team is like S&M. If you like being tortured and having your nuts crushed in a vice. This team does it, and I keep coming back for more.
Bring on the Dead Wings. We are deeper, more talented, have home ice and we are prettier. I am going to bet all my V-Cash in support ...... well ...... that didn't work. But all you whiners on this thread, I dare you to leave your TV off if you are going to stop following the team if they lose. If they win, the other Shark fans are going to be feeling pretty good about our chances against Vancouver. Go ahead..... leave your sets off. I double dog dare you.
Now that everyone has sobered up, are the feelings still the same? If the Sharks lose, I'll at least give up on them till July 1st, then I'm right back in there.
Well perhaps a bit. Maybe I'll include those who have gone to sleep, woke up, and continued drinking to make the pain go away. (i.e. me )
I would fall under this category, although I only did it because I can't quit the sharks... It's just too painful to be a fan without the help of numbing agents.
I readily admit that as a soon to be 15 year old, the first NHL game I watched from beginning to end was Sharks/Wings WCQF Game 1 in 1994. I remember hearing all the hype and seeing the Mercury News have a full page ad for the Sharks being in the "QUEST FOR THE CUP." That Game 1 was at 4:00pm on KICU Channel 36, so it was easy for me to watch having been home from school. Sharks took a 3-0 lead into the
1st intermission and I was hooked for life.
Man oh man how I would be juiced to see the Sharks take a 3-0 lead (or bigger!!!!) into the 1st intermission tomorrow... GO SHARKS!!!!

lol it's kinda funny how you literally have two fanbases cheering hard for you guys in game 7.
Guess you guys can't hate the canucks anymore if you win
I dunno. I bet for every Canucks/Bruins/whatever fan that has posted in this thread, another has been on the Red Wings board to support them there. Still, it's nice and very much appreciated to hear the kind words!
Anyone here who's been a diehard fan of the Sharks since '91?
I was only 7 then, but went to my first game in '91, got me hooked. Went to a playoff game in the 93-94 Red Wing series, lots of fun. Best memory from early days was hiding in my room with a radio for the double OT Game 7 against Calgary in '95 after my parents sent me to bed before the 2nd OT. When Whitney scored I ran out of my room and ran around the house screaming. Does that count?
I'm not giving up on the team, but this season I already had less interest in the regular season than I have in the past. I don't know if I wanna bother getting my 10 pack again, the main reason I get it is to get the playoff tickets, but I've almost lost interest in the first round....I will still get as angry and as excited for this next game as I ever have though. Probably still less depressing than the Edmonton series or the Anaheim failure, but that's probably just because I've gotten more jaded. sigh.
Sports fans often want to think there's always a special reason when their team doesn't do what they want. But there are 30 teams in the NHL. The management and the players can do everything right, but it doesn't matter if enough other teams are as well. Every year there are far more losers than winners.

losing in the 2nd round bunch of years in a row is not doing what we want. losing in the wcf last year was not doing what we want.
blowing a 3 game lead is something only 4 other teams in the entire 100 years of professional sports over three major sporting leagues has done. that is beyond 'not doing what we want' and we are now talking about historical infamy, a trivia pursuit answer to 'these two teams managed to choke utterly in consecutive years in the playoffs'.
