Cool....now GET US A GOALIE and no more goalie tryouts in the Stanley Cup playoffs or FINALS!
Anyway, Snider has done this resolute shtick before when he said we were going to stop givin away picks and our youth. That worked well for a bit......

Well, he also did it that one time with the team getting beaten up. We'll see...this is a different situation, after all.

I am not trying to be a dick or anything, but can you point me to where he said that? I remember that that was brought up when we traded for Pronger, but I hadn't read thath (I know that he and Holmgren said it during our great rebuild, right?)
Mulling over simply means weighing their options...which every team who's been eliminated thus far is currently doing in preparation for July 1.
How does that equal fire Homer?
Does not compute. Error. Error.
Yes, we'd rather have Homer speculating about signing Vokoun or Bryzgalov in the paper, and getting accused of tampering with players still under contract, right?

It's a matter of public record if the research is done..I can attempt it but I do recall it vividly. If anybody else can google and find the comments it would help. It was before the Pronger deal...I think around when Clarke and Hitch got let go.

Not saying that we shouldn't sign a goalie. I have no faith in either of our three in the playoffs next year. We'll still once again be a regular season force regardless of who is in net, but we need a LEGITIMATE NUMBER ONE. Not an expensive number one, just a legitimate number one.
I agree. Who do you suggest? In my opinion, the list of true #1 goalies is extremely short. Lundquist, Miller, Ward, Rinne, Luongo?, Price, Thomas, Quick?, Fleury?, Kipper?, Bryz?, Vokoun?, Crawford?, Niemi, Roloson, Nabokov?, Howard?, Halak, Backstrom, Pavelec, Reimer?, Emery?
I have questions about all those with questions next to their name. Bryz has unreal regular season numbers, but I can see your point about 3-4 years being a risk. Same with Vokoun. I would love Roloson for 1-2 years cheap. If we can't someone acquire a true #1 via trade, then we have to sign one of Vokoun, Roloson, Bryz or maybe Emery with major questions.

I agree with this statement....But if we could get Vokoun signed to a two year contract, I'd be very very open to that.

Should be no question mark next to vokoun. He's a bonafide number 1 goaltender and top 10 in the league, even playing for the panthers.
I'd take him over any of the available goaltenders, via free agnency or over anyone we'd have a realistic chance of acquiring via trade.

Well, I wanted Roloson this year not only because we'd have a legitimate, and criminally underrated, number one heading into the postseason, but we'd also have a headstart in re-signing him this summer to a favorable contract. Though he's old, Tampa Bay, regardless of where they finish, gets that distinct honor this offseason.
Roloson will be off the market.
That leaves Vokoun, Bryzgalov, Leclaire, Smith, Hedberg, Osgood, Turco, Conklin, Budaj, Harding, Garon, Theodore, Auld, Emery, and Boucher as UFAs with a few other names floating around.
So your only options are Vokoun and Bryzgalov if you don't want to go the Emery route based on injury. I wanted Turco last offseason, but after he was beat out in Chicago, I'm not interested. Osgood? He's getting up there, and he's never been some spectacular goaltender. Harding? He was a promising prospect but ran into injury trouble. Smith's career may be over.
So where do you go?
You almost have to go for Vokoun or Bryzgalov. The big problem is both could realistically re-sign in their current situations right? If they hit the market, I'm all for dumping Carle and someone else if need be under the bus to acquire one (as long as that someone else is not someone better/more important than Versteeg and as long as they come at a reasonable cap hit on a non-35+ contract).

Pencil me in for team Tomas vokoun.
Also, no love for Niklas Backstrom on your list?
Top 5 in the league.
Not saying Bryzgalov isn't good, but I have less faith in his status as an "elite" netminder.
Vokoun would probably be the most logical considering his age, he'd wouldn't be locked up for a long time and he should be much cheaper than the younger Bryz.
I can't help but think that a top goalie has been a "priority" for years and years now.
I'd like to resign Boucher, he's a good enough backup/3 guy, more than Leighton anyway.
1. Lundqvist
2. Miller
3. Thomas
4. Luongo
5. Vokoun
6. Ward
7. Backstrom
8. Bryzgalov
9. Price
10. Rinne
HM - Lehtonen, Quick, Pavelec
Who I'd want going forward long-term out of that group...
1. Lundqvist
2. Miller
3. Price
4. Ward
5. Luongo
6. Bryzgalov
7. Vokoun
8. Rinne
9. Backstrom
10. Thomas
I agree except for Rinne and Ward. Cam Ward is the most under rated goaltender in the league. I put him above vokoun. Also, rinne has proven himself to be an elite superstar goaltender. Number 10 is pretty ridiculous for him

This is the only year that Vokoun hasn't put up significantly better numbers than Ward (they were virtually tied) while playing on a far worse team.
I don't know how you can make this argument personally.
One thing to notice above^^ Vokoun's worst season amongst those, is Ward's best.
Also, one season and one playoffs does not prove someone is a superstar, especially with goalies. While I would likely say Rinne is true blue, with goalies you never can tell after one season.
