I was quite impressed he mentioned that Clouston played Gonchar on the wrong side all year.

For some reason, outside of HFBoards, that was completely glossed over EVERYWHERE.

Did you ever see a TSN game? McGuire never shut up about it as though he were trying to get a coaching job or something. All it was when Ottawa struggled on the PP: "Clouston has no idea what he's doing, this is a travesty. You know Gord, I should be GM and Coach of this team, I'd put Gonchar on his preferred side and win the cup".

I don't see how our D needs two years to "come together"

The only new faces are Cowen and or Rundblad. I would sau the defensemen are pretty familiar with one another.

Before you jump down his throat for the 2 top 4 defencemen he says we need, remember that he's not saying we should acquire 2 defencemen. He's saying that our defence will likely include two new faces: Cowen and Rundblad. Look at his potential lineup, the only player he's acquired for us is Jussi Jokinen.

Cullen's Off-Season Gameplans are damn good considering everything else that's out there.

Yeah, as a columnist, Cullen is one of the more unbiased guys, mostly because he uses numbers heavily. He's not saying anything outlandish, people here seem to think the rebuild is over. Cullen is saying it's not and from that point, it's rational to trade Alfie (though I'd wager the bad press harming our image would negate that unless it's a mutual thing which Alfie said won't happen). Do we need top 6 forwards? Yes, badly, but we also need some capable d-men (which we might have in Cowen and Rundblad) and a backup goalie, which is easily obtained (Big Bald Alex Auld?).

We won't be trading alfie unless he wants to get traded which I somehow doubt.

Like, seriously, Christopher Higgins? That is what we need? Higgins. Must be his brother-in=law or something...

The article was ... eh... bad.

Though, there was one line I found amusing, namely:
Quote:
For long-time Sens Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson, the rebuilding process may not be easy, but there's no easy way to fix a team that was 14-9-1 in the last 24 games to finish with the 26th-best record in the league (to say nothing of the lower draft pick as a result).
Somehow he managed to turn a ~60% winning percentage into a problem with the franchise...

It's not even that we played ourselves out of an elite draft pick (that would be legitimate criticism), but the fact that we won 14 out of 24 games down the stretch.... like, really? If Ottawa had maintained a 14-9-1 record all season, they would have ended up with a 48-31-3 record.... 99 points. That's a playoff team, middle of the top 8.

For a numbers guy, Scott Cullen sometimes misses the point entirely.

I'm actually against trading Winchester. What's the point? He won't get much of a return... at all. But, he's a solid 4th line center. He's great with faceoffs and he plays the boards like a champ. He can bang bodies and drop the gloves. We're not paying Winnie to pot in the goals. That's what the top 2 lines are for.

Trade Market: Daniel Alfredsson

GTFO, Cullen.
Completely agree. Why are we trading players that would get a mid round draft pick in a weak draft when they are worth more to us.

Even if you told me Winnie would end up as a healthy scratch half the time, I still wouldn't ship him out for nothing.
