Ted Black on WGR this morning; player budget to go up 15%, Season tix up 5%

Here is a thread to discuss his comments.

He is still on. He decided to stay longer than originally scheduled.

I haven't listened to all of his comments yet but there is a summary on WGR of whats been said so far.

http://wgr550.com/Ted-Black--Sabres-...ncreas/9817823

Will listen later and add more comments.

-player budget will go up 15-20%

-season tix to go up 5%/ moving 300-500 people off waiting list through attrition and expansion of ST base.

-first order of business off ice is Darcy finishing up plans for what he needs in the scouting department, including possible expansion

-team had internal discussion on team and what needs to be done to put a Cup winner together; from trying to strike new deals with current players to targetting RFAs and UFAs

-team interested in retiring Hasek's number

-mentioned possibly putting together travel packages for fans to go with the team to Europe at the start of next season.

-as we already knew, renovating players lockerroom and workout facility to make it one of the best in the NHL

-talked about a Sabres app. But they are waiting on the NHL which is working on a format for all the teams.

-also mentioned upgrading the wifi at HSBC.

-possibly use of social media to enhance game experience and fan experience overall.

No mention of occasional free home or road tix for BUF games to HFBoards members?

Hrm, the Sabres spent $55,839,331 last year (in cap dollars)

20% on top of that is over the cap even at a generous cap increase (most people have it penned at 61-62 million).....

Yes, 50 is the maximum number of contracts. They may not get up to that number, but it does perhaps open the door to plenty of options, including an AHL veteran (or veterans) getting more money on a 2-way deal for the Pirates, having more players under contract/expanding into an ECHL agreement, as well as the "OMGTHEYARESIGNINGEVERYONE!!" type of NHL-level UFA hype.

Player budget - we're sure that directly means the budget we allocate to spend on player salaries? Why does that look to be more all-encompassing than just salaries to me...?

It probably is more encompassing, but I think it's a pretty safe assumption that a significant chunk of that increase is related to player salaries.

I don't see much on the roster that should be bought out rather than simply traded. There are a few cap-floor teams that could use a contract like Boyes...

Without being exacting, I think 42-45, but I could be low, and I may not be properly counting. There are a couple posters on here who follow transactions and eligibilities a lot more exacting than I do.

I have them at 45 to end this year. Deals expire as of July 1st, they have 12 RFA's, 12 UFA's, and 22 continuing contracts (including Szyd's deal which doesn't count until July 1st).

Thanks

Don't know why but I thought they would have had less.
